The Australian Navy in Surabaya

Have you ever seen a warship? Perhaps an Indonesian naval vessel in Surabaya harbour? On April 18th fifty very lucky students from MTsN Kediri 2, MI Miftahul Ulum Batu and MAN 3 Malang actually visited 2 Australian frigates in Surabaya.

Commanders and crew of Royal Australian Navy ships, HMAS BALLARAT and HMAS PARRAMATTA, welcomed teachers and students from these 3 BRIDGE schools on board for a tour and lunch. The students were so excited as they were shown all over the ships. KGI Champion Suryadi was there along with Kevin from KGI in Bali. The ships arrived with more than 350 crew for a three day visit to Indonesia from 16-19 April. During the visit, the crew participated in social and professional activities with the Indonesian Navy, further strengthening the relationship between the two countries. The relationship between the Royal Australian Navy and the Indonesian Navy is very strong, and is based on professional respect and friendship.

Hi all! I am Adzky, the one of students MtsN Kediri 2 who came to the Great Australian Warship 'Paramatta' with all my 16th friends. That's nice Monday! Many things I got from the trip. I just can say it's amazing ship! Before I came to the warship, I just can see it on the film. Hahaa, LOL!

It's amazing adventure because it's first time for me. Oo, the ship is the best ever seen. The shape, the machine, the people, the mark, and all of that.. So nice! Love that! Oh yea.. I had special moment in the ship. Over there, we met many crews. Such us Black, Leesa Brown, Cone, Michael, Saleh, and Korean.. KIM! Waw.. We felt so surprised to see Korean in the ship. We felt so happy and my friend said that Kim like Korean Actor.

But unfortunately, he didn't know Korean actor very much because long time he stayed at Australia. I still remember, in the last of trip, I and my friend wrote a message for Leesa and Kim. We thought that they are couple, haha.. LOL! We wrote message on the tissue. It's read: WE ARE FULL! And WE ARE FUN! and Leesa gave us message too.. Ofcourse she wrote on the tissue too..

And I still save it carefully. Hohoo wE LOVE Paramatta so much. Hope one day can met all the crews again.. My April more complete because this moment. I will remember it till the end of time~ Please send back message for me, thankyou ^_^ regards, Name: ADZKIA RAHMA S. Grade: 8 School: MTsN Kediri 2

It was the first time for me visiting the warship. I have never seen it too. I think before, I understand or not someone who explained is Australian. It was happen. I was very nervous if I met with foreigner. What if they asked something to me? I couldn’t speak English fluently and correctly. And also I can’t listen what they said. It made me confusing.

When I got on onto the ship, I felt strange with that condition. I and my friends welcome by Bell. How Bell spoke was so fast. I didn’t understand well. After we enter the ship, Bell explained everything. Started from the kit of ship, rooms, and many more. We were interested with kitchen the smell was so delicious.

Luckily, we can taste Australian food. All of them were delicious, but one of them made me sick of. Maybe, I have never taste it before.

On the ship, we had a chance to take a photo, but I didn’t bring camera. So, I just saw my friends took a photo.

Although, I didn’t bring camera, I was still happy. Because, it was one of my unforgettable experience.

Do you want to know about me? Ok

Hi Mr. Dalton... I'm Meiria Rosa Kusumawati,
I'm student of MTsN Kediri 2,.

This is my story when I visit to Parramatta navy ship..

This is activity that’s very exciting for me. Can visit to Parramatta navy ship is amazing experience. I will never forget it. Many new knowledge I got from here. So of course practise English language feel real. From the initial entry, we were very well received. We guided by two persons, they are Mr. Bell and Mrs. Lissa. The room here is veryclean and comfortable. It’s great. None of the waste is wasted on the floor. All items here are very neatly arranged. I think this ship’s like house could be considered more than house because of equipment to meet the needs here is very complete. There were three type of beverage color provided here. Namely white, green, and orange. I took water which the color was orange , the taste like orange. I would be very happy if I could live here. I say many thanks because after a tired walk, we all treated to lunch. Lunch here is very filling. We were very full. Thank you very much because we havereceived very friendly.

The first time I got PARAMATA warships, I am pleased and amazed. Large warships, nice, cool, and amazing.

Me and my friends were invited by Mr.Bel to browse the contents and the parts of the ship. After satisfied to see part of the ship, we were invited to have lunch there. The food was delicious and the portions are too much for my size, so I do not spend it because it was too full.

When finished eating, we chatted while waiting for friends who have not finished eating. Then we took some pictures with the military for a memento. We were also given a souvenir by them.

The thing I admire about the military that is their deft, timely, disciplined, and can spend time with his best.

MEMORABLE MEETING WITH THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY CREWS on 'HMAS PARRAMATA' SHIP IN SURABAYA

Monday (April 18th, 2011) was the day that will never be forgotten by a group of students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Malang since they got the privillege to 'greet and meet' the Australian Navy crews of the HMAS Parramatta. Some 18 students who were accompanied by 3 teachers (Mr Yoga, Mr Sukri, and Mr Bambang) arrived at Tanjung Perak Port 30 minutes before the tour began and warmly welcomed and organized by the project manager of Kang Guru Indonesia (Mr. Kevin Dalton) and representatives from the Australian Embassy (Mr. Chudwick and Ms. Lisa).

The visit to the HMAS Parramatta Navy ship was part of the BRIDGE Australian-Indonesian Schools Partnership Program to give the opportunity to the Indonesian students get closer to the Australian people and learn about their culture. We are vey lucky to be appointed as the BRIDGE school this year because in this way we can get the luxury of meeting the Australian Navy Crews in persons. They are all great people. I personally think that providing this sort of opportunities to students is really important because it will have a more everlasting impact on the students perception about their neighbour, Australian people in a better way.

There was much enthusiasm among students when they were given a tour around HMAS Parramatta ship by the very friendly crews. All students were mostly impressed with the warm welcome and companion by the crew during the tour. The highlight of the visit was the lunch provided by the crew to all students and teachers. This is like the best lunch ever in my life because it is nicely prepared and served by the Navy crew, said Ajeng, one of the students. We are very thankful to BRIDGE program and Australian Embassy that have made this visit possible. Looking forward to getting another chance to meet the Australian people in different occasion.

Below are some comments made by students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Malang about the visit:

1. The short visit to Parramatta ship was just marvelous and amazing experience for me. The crew was really nice, friendly, and they are all good looking. I really love the Australian soldiers. I hope I can see them again someday. Thanks Parrmatta. (Ajeng Widya, MAN 3 Malang)

2. This is like my best trip ever in my life. Parramatta crew has really changed the way I see Australian people. They are very nice people and very open minded-not arrogant like what I thought they were. (Syauqie, MAN 3 Malang)

3. I love everything about the trip to Parramatta Navy Ship. My favourite during the visit was the food. It was really really really great to enjoy the real Australian food and served by good looking Australian Navy crews hehe (Sysca Ellyana, MAN 3 Malang)

4. I told everybody in my class who did not go to Parramatta Navy ship that they missed one of the nicest experience in their life. I seriously think that visiting and meeting the Austrlaian soldiers in the Navy ship was really great moment. We learn about the discipline among the soldiers, the profesionalism, and the friendlines. Althogh they are soldiers, they are very social and friendly. And they are very informative. Thank you very much Parrmatta Crew. We love you. (David, MAN 3 Malang)
