MAKES stands for Al-Markaz for Khudi Enlightening Studies and each word has
meaning namely: ‘Al-Markaz’ is from Arabic language
means centre. ‘Khudi’ is from Persian language means
spirit of revolution for reformation and self consciousness. ‘Enlightening’
is from English means to give somebody greater knowledge or understanding.
MAKES is not like a meeting club but is more like an organisation that concern
to study and discuss about everything such idea around society maybe economics,
politics, social, culture, religion, ideology and others. So MAKES wants to
enlighten people who come to MAKES activities while they can improve their
ability in English. Furthermore MAKES wants to give contribution to society,

improve their proficiency in the 4 skills of English. Other thing, students

Pasarwajo Speed English Club is a new member of the KGCC - April 2003. Our Club
is located at Pasarwajo, an asphalt mining town 48 km from the capital of Buton
Regency in Southeast Sulawesi. We have 56 active members now. Most of them are
SMU - SLTP students, 4 SD and 4 other people. Our Club meets every Friday
afternoon. Every month we visit one of the member's houses and discuss the Kang
Guru magazine activities there. We have two committees: administrative
(organise membership, Pouch, finance and correspondence) and KGRE activities
committee (organise magazine activities, CAR, competition and excursion). Our
club is around the coastal areas, so the members are very interested in
discussing marine and ecosystem preservation. Our favorite activity is meeting
and discussing the current issues such as coral reef preservation and drug
abuse. We are an ‘off the beaten track’ club. By
keeping in touch with Kang Guru, all become near and arouse our self-confidence
in rural areas.
Thank you — KGRE.
