Here's a recent email (dated June 17th, 2009) about 'Listening and Reading
Class Set'
Hi Mr.Kevin,
How are you?. It's my third letter for you. However, It's nice to see you again. By the way i will tell you about
my experience using L&RCS with my students. Do you still remember about AFGAN?. That's right!. He is the most
popular singer in Indonesia this year. KGI interviewed some months ago. As usual, I prepare what we will discuss
and learn first from KGI magazine. In that time, we was discussing about AFGAN. Before I recorded my voice in my
HP. I read the text carrefully. Even I recorded it repeteadly. Then, the club was began. I played the recording
twice. I forbide them to open the magazine. The class was so quite.I did'nt understand why it happen, it was unusual. My
student listened to the recording quitely. After the listening was over, I ask them what they think about the recording.
Do you know what they say?. "Sir, it's the first time for us listening AFGAN completely. He is Afgan voice,
isn't he?". Wow ... I was embrassed that time. They was confused for few times. They looked each other. I smiled
and laugh seeing their reaction.
Next, I tell them the fact. They was surprised. They think that the voice is afgan's. They can not different between
my voice and afgan. Is my voice like Afgan?. I don't know surely. However, actually my students deceived.
Last, using L&RCS, especially by the artist/actor theme, make the learning and discussion more interesting.
You know, all of my students are teens between 13-15 years old.All about entertainment and music are interesting
to discuss, in english of course.
Thanks a lot for the amazing L&RCS. Keep us in learnng and learning.
Sinceerely,
Rony Faisol
