KGRE's motto

Australia Indonesia Basic Education Program (AIBEP)

The Government of Indonesia has made a commitment to a universal standard of nine years schooling, to be in place by 2010. To reach this goal, the Ministries of National Education (MoNE) and Religious Affairs (MoRA) have developed strategic plans that give top priority to increasing access to basic education, improving quality and standards, and strengthening education governance and accountability mechanisms. The A$355 million Australia Indonesia Basic Education Program (AIBEP) has been designed to support these Government of Indonesia (GoI) priorities.

See AIBEP's new website and also take a look at new AIBEP-constructed schools in Banjarbaru, Bali and NTT by checking out the AusAID Archive Pages on this site.

Students Visa Changes for Australia

In late April, the Australian Government made changes to its visa system. Indonesian citizens studying in Australia are now automatically eligible to work part-time during their courses. Under new processing arrangements all student visas will be granted with work rights attached, removing the need for people to make a separate application. The changes mean that Indonesian students can now apply for part-time jobs and work for up to 20 hours per week as soon as their courses start, reducing red-tape for students wanting to work in Australia. Australia granted 7,534 student visas to Indonesian citizens in the year to June 2007. The number of Indonesian commencing study in Australia grew by six per cent in 2007 compared to 2006. There are currently around 15,000 Indonesians studying in Australia, and Australia remains the number one destination country for Indonesian students.
