Kang GURU Stories – Whiz Holiday Stories

Dear Whiz,

It is such as a very nice to tell you about my activities on my holiday. I know I'm not as young as you. You're a student aren't you and I'm not a student anymore. I'm working as a government employee but I hope you will read my story because I want to improve my English.

Well Whiz, as a six days employer I don't have much time for holiday, only on Sunday that I have one. Usually, I just do clean up my house and some other stuff. I will not tell you about that Sunday activities but I'm going to tell you about my long vacation when I was a student at University, when I have long holidays during my university's study break, I went to travel to Java.

I went by bus from my hometown, Bengkulu to Jakarta and stay for few days there with my uncle and his family. In Jakarta, I just spent my time by watching movie at 21 (twenty one) and met some of my friends. Few days after I traveled to Jogjakarta by train to my grandparents's house. I spent longer days there by visiting Malioboro, Borobudur, Prambanan and Keraton Jogjakarta. I almost got lost there because I seldom to go there. I just asked the police when I got lost. Fortunately, they were very helpful. It happened when I visited Borobudur and Prambanan temple. From the bus station I went to Prambanan first and after walking around for few hours I traveled to Borobudur. Unfortunately, there wasn't bus from Prambanan to Borobudur so I was so confused. I asked the security man at Prambanan and he suggested me to go back to the bus station. So, I went to Borobudur by bus again from the station. The view during my way to Borobudur is very interesting, so greenly. After arriving at Borobudur I step up its stairs. It was too tiring because Borobudur has many stairs. I met some Indonesian and foreigners there. It was interesting because I can talk in English with them to improve my English. I'm excited because there isn't any foreigner in my hometown. We took some pictures. I bought some souvenirs there and have lunch together. I was so impressed to the Borobudur's architecture. How great our ancient was. They could built an incredible buildings with a wonderful views and architecture. Almost in the evening I traveled back to my grandparent's house and took a rest. The day fater I visited the Keraton Jogjakarta and Maliboro. The Keraton is amazing. I see the Jogjakarta's heritage, culture, dance and art there. Finally I walked to Maliboro where I spent many hours there to shop and talk with foreigners again. I hava a nasi and gudeg for my lunch and it reminds a good taste until now. Few days after I just spent with my grandpa's family.

After spending few days in Jogjakarta, I traveled back to Jakarta by train again and spent two days at my uncle's house to prepare my trip back to my hometown. I like to travel around because I can see many amazing and exciting things, get new friends, see wonderful culture, natural views, dance, art, of course we can practice and improve our English by talking with foreigners and the last we can taste a new delicious taste of food.

A Great Holiday

A few weeks ago were holiday. I think holiday or not is same days to me. I do same thing, do same activities. My life is same and same. Every day, but I will make a change, maybe. Try, try and try. In my first holiday, I tried to climb mountains, made some picnic, took a walk and did some thing. It was very poor cause I wasn't able to do this plan. All my friends were busier than before. One of then had got headache, had much housework, homework and anything. So, I canceled my plan. I will another day, maybe. At night, I tried to think something and I got. I had made a plan to go to the library. I would borrow some interesting books. And I spent my holiday with reading. By god it was really fantastic. Read … read and read. I thought books were my true best friends. But … I was wrong. I was still alone. And I tried to come to my friends' house, made sure to did my first activities and plan. But, and but. My best friends were still busy. And I thought again, … never mind maybe another day.

My holiday will have finished in few weeks. But, I think I still have some thing lose from my self and my hearth. I never spend holiday that really … really make me happy. What should I do? Why every holiday I do boring activities. I try to make plan, and try to make everything that make my holiday seem beautiful. But, … it isn't end of the world. I will try again !!

On my sixth day holiday, my cousins same, my uncle and … and. They sepnt their holiday in my house. It was very noise and busy. And I spent my time with them with watching TV. But, I do not seem its true holiday. Yeah, never mind maybe on another holiday and I hope my friends aren't busy again.

It was two weeks on holiday. My friends were still busy and I was still alone and my cousin and nephew were still here. But, I hope my friends are not busy anymore next week. If they aren't I would be happy to climb mountain and see scenery will climb mountain alone, and without my dear best friends. I love my friends, but my love with mountains is more than them. O miss my green and very long time I never meet them. And if my best friends aren't busy, of course I'll go with them. We're love green and I am not a selfish person.

My Useful Holiday

As a student, I usually spend most of my time to study at school. But, now I'm on holiday, of course I use this time to get relax. And I try to do it in positive ways. One of them is by chatting o the Internet.

Since my computer at home is not connected to the internet, I usually go to the “warnet” in order to browse or chat for about 2 or 3 hours. In chatting, I tend to choose the people from abroad that se English as their daily language. Why …? Because by chatting with them I can improve my English skill, especially in writing style. It makes me know more about slang words that often used.

The other advantage that I get by chatting with people from abroad is enlarging my knowledge about the people's life style there. How they live and also their routine. I just take the positive things and leave the negative sides. Some of the chatters are kind, but others are “naughty”, they like to talk about inappropriate things in chatting. So, I just try to be selective.

Spending A Vacation By Reading Book

The real meaning of vacation is to remove an activity to another one, so the meaning of vacation is not free from activity, because by getting vacation, we are able to do what we are going to do as well as possible; even we easier accomplish a problem.

I am in be half of student who stayed and studied at boarding school a;ways use a vacation as one of way to increase what I have gotten before having holiday, like: reading book more to enlarge my knowledge, either politic, economic science and so on. And more interested activity to spend my vacation in this month is by reading news paper within sport news to get more information's about the last score of world cup match, because during holiday I don't get home, but I live comfortable at boarding school.

Besides reading book, news paper I also read holy book. Any how I, as Moslem must advance many laws accordance with Islamic doctrine.

As usual, the students outside of boarding school often spend their holiday by hanging out in the mall, going steady and visiting excursion places. According with my view of point, these activities just waste of time and there is no benefit.

Probably, reading activity is going to cause them so boring, but it is going to make me so delighted, why? Because, I often do that activity nevertheless I have not vacation, so reading activity is not strange one for my self.

These, my activities during holiday, especially in this year because I always think before doing activity, as wise word “look before leap”.

Relying fully on this wise word, I have to choose which more advantage activity for me? Hanging out in the mall, going steady, visiting beautiful excursion places or reading book as the first step to prepare my self in facing new lesson activity at school.

Unforgettable Holiday

Hi Whiz, My name is Martha from SMK Xaverius 1 Palembang. I want to write my traveling during my holidays. On 3 rd July 2006 I went to Medan. This is the first time I go to Medan City. Sure ! I am very happy. Medan famous with Lake Toba in Samosir Island. But I didn't go there.

My family planning going to Brastagi city, the first I don't agree but after we roud, I look left and right Brastagi City. Oh My God! You can believe, Brastagi have enchantment self. That is flowers and fruits. Very beautiful. My family take me to “Kebun Buah Petik Sendiri”. The name a place which we can get fruits. Free, but we only pay ticket for come in a cost of Rp. 2.000 for children and Rp. 3.000 for adult. Therefore we can tastes and feels all fruits has been here. Until satisfied, you know?

With the spirit high we street to skirt garden. Tired, dirty clothes, I didn't heed. I am walking at the same time I'm eating fruits here. Really, I'm happiness. After that, I go to Brastagi market and I bought a yellow hat. Oh yeah ! one more I forget it. During my traveling to Brastagi market. I looked very much monkey. At the same time, I'm eating corn. I observe activity of monkeys. Funny! Really I can't forget this experience and I won't to forget it.

Hi Ya

Hello Whiz, nice to meet you. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Andini Ariestanti. I'm from Merauke – West Papua. I will tell you my experience during holiday or what activities that I have done in my holiday time.

In my holiday, I just spend my time in the bedroom, reading comics and novels. Because I am girl who didn't like to go out. I'm a silent girl and my hobby just reading book. But sometimes if my parents want to recreation, we always go to the beach or Wasur national park. Every holiday we always go to the Wasur for fishing, swimming, etc. But if we go to th beach, just for swimming. But I feel bored. Merauke is a small city and didn't have any recreation place beside beach and TNW.

If I'm bored to go to the recreation place like beach and TNW, I always stay in my home and reading comic all day in my bedroom. I think you feel that I have boring hobbies right, Whiz! But I like it. Same with you Whiz, you like skate board and you like to go with your friend to play skate board all day. Me too, I spend my time just in my room all day to read novels and comics. All my holiday, I spend my time to collect new comics and novels and read it during the holiday until I can memorize it well.

Have you seen Wasur National Park, Whiz? I think that's all. Thank you.

Bali Holiday

Hi Whiz, by this letter, I glad to tell to you my activity when I'm on holidays. I hope you enjoy to read my story.

Beside going to school, especially when I get a holiday like now, I'm on holiday about 1 month. I usually do many activities. I will tell all of my activities to you one by one (if I can).

In holiday, I like to read many books that can be an entertain to me. So by read books like comics, novels, magazines (except my lesson books, I think) ca makes me feel fresh, enjoy and lose my problems about my daily life and my study (do you thin so, whiz?)

Beside read books, I usually watch TV. I really enjoy watch TV until for hours. I think I watch TV more than you. Do you know whiz? When I watch TV, I see a lot of information and news around me. Like hot mud accident in prorong, Sidoarjo – Jawa Timur. The flood in east Borneo, Sulawesi and in Buru island – Maluku and other. Events in the world (what is your openion about many natural disasters that happen in Indonesia?)

For keep my body fresh when holiday, I usually do go on foot with my younger brother. I walk on the rice field (do you ever walk on the rice field and walk on the road?) we usually do that, right?

I also sms text with my friends (sometimes) to tell each other about our holiday. It is fun and more interesting because we know about our friends activities when holiday and if there are people go to someplace for recreations, we know a little informations of that places (No problem!) It's fun, isn't it?

How about traveling when holiday? Mmm… I usually or almost or absolutely or .. bla.. bla… go to village. In the village, I can pick up many kinds of fruits and eat it (free!)

Without pay a bill. It's a different situation if we compare this situation with the situation in the city.

A game? Why not. I also play chess, card and my other kinds of game.

Do you know whiz? In this holiday, I give a different activity. Do you want to know? In this holiday, I'm a baby sister for my new nephew, a boy. (Has a nephew too, whiz?)

Can you up your mind? It is really an amazing challenge in my holiday. Now I must arrange a baby. It's difficult (very very difficult) because a baby is too troublesome.

Ok Whiz, only that activities that can I write in this letter. In fact, I have many activities but I'm afraid they can't show here. And I really say sorry because there are many mistakes and many correction pen in my letter.

Hello To You

Hello, I'm Fidyah from central Java. I'm 15 years old and just now pass a national examination for Junior High school. I'm be grateful cause I got a high NEM and now I study in Senior High School 1 Salatiga. Before it, I have holiday for 3 weeks. So I fill my holiday with playing computer games, make something fun or just watching television. Especially playing computer games, I really enjoy it. I think if I playing computer, I can learn my English too. Example, if I don't understood about the games, I can open a help menu and try to translate it. Usually games use English language, doesn't it? I like al of the games, such as adventure game, race, etc. Beside it, I like listen some song from MP3 in my computer. I do it in the morning. If play computer make me bore, I try to make something to decorate my bedroom.

I like watching TV in the afternoon. Drama, knowledge or film is my favorite program. But, sometime I watch some news too because I don't want to behind the news about the condition of Indonesia. I think playing computer or watching TV only one from million activities to fill a holiday. Well, don't vein your holiday!

My Sweet Holiday

Hello friends! How are you? I hope you are still fighting it. By the way, how about your semester holiday? Do you have a sweet memory of your holiday? OK guys! I want to share with you about my last activities in this semester holiday.

One of my hobbies in the free time is traveling. I like to travel to many places, some new places that I have not been visited before. In this semester holiday, I have gone to some places. This activities was not gave me an enjoy full only, but it also give me some new knowledge about everything, which is connected with my lecture in agriculture faculty.

In the first day of my holiday, I and my best friends went to a patchouli (Pogostemon cablin benth) farm. In here, we studied about patchouli cultivation and how to process it become an useful products. Patchouli is a kind of plant which produces oil, called patchouli oil. These oils can be made as mixture of perfume, soap and medicines. Patchouli oils is a “non – migas” export commodity which has good prospect in the future.

After that, we went to the region of Rembangan, in a foot of Argopuro Mountain in Jember city, East Java. This place is not so far from the patchouli farm. It is completed with a flower garden. There are some beautiful flowers, such as rose orchid, and Shrysanthemum sp. The weather of Rembangan region is so fresher and comfortable. From the area of Rembangan, we can see some places in the Jember city area. It is so beautiful and fantastic!

Several days later, I went to Pasirian, Lumajang, East Java, with my best friends and my lecture. That day, we followed an organic farming training. In thi slocation, there are some husbandries, such as cows, goats, fishes and chickens. These animals are cared to produce manures which can used to produce organic fertilizer. In this area is also use to cultivate hardwood trees, dragon fruit plant and bananas.

Pasirian also has a beautiful bamboo forest. This small forest has a natural water resources. The waters is used by the villagers to support their life. The water flows to some rivers which has many kind of fishes. The water is so cool and fresh.

From the Pasirian region, we also can see the beautiful Semeru mountain. Look at the picture, Semeru is producing hot gasses from its top in every 15 minutes. It's so wonderful, isn't it?

OK guys, I think that's all of my experiences in this holiday. And now, my friends and I have a plan to go to another places. We hope, it will more enjoy and wonderful. How about your friends? I hope you are feel same like me, see you!

Taking English Courses

Now, I'm student of University in Jakarta. I'm in my final year. I have planning to continue my study abroad. But, I have no enough money to do it. So, I always try to take scholarship.

Unfortunately, the scholarships always enclose English language skill as regulations. Whereas I have no good skill in English and that is my weakness.

But, it doesn't make me surrender. I will try to realize my wish. That's way I have to make my English better. So, I will spend my holiday for taking English course. Now is my turn to do it. I will enjoy it, because I love English so much.
