Club of the Month for January 2003

English Practicing Club
 Lumajang, East Java

Club Profile

Dear KGRE

Let us take this opportunity to express our sorry for something happened in Bali and for our all brothers who were there and became the victim of this unforgettable attack. Hoping so much, whoever they are who must take a responsibility for this tragedy will arrested soon, even though it would never be able to turn back one's soul or even to heal wounded skin. Too much to pay for them that would never be paid.

'Let's chat with this guy'.

Thanks for sending us the POUCH and the Kang Guru Reading Class Set Package. But we really sorry to tell you if we got only 10 copies not 25 copies as you mentioned. We really don't mean to ask you to complete it but it's just for correction only. Meanwhile concerning the information that we get in the POUCH 'special offer' that you willing to provide the copies for our club members, then they may get one copy in the same time. It's absolutely wonderful. It will be easier for us to discuss the content of the magazine if every member has their own copy. To tell you the truth, we really enjoy reading the magazine. They are very exciting for us as English learners to improve our ability in understanding the readings as well as developing listening skill.

Anyone for a picnic?

Through this letter we want to say sorry for being late in sending the reports. We were very busy with our duty preparing a middle test for our students in any school since most of the EPC boards are active as teacher have meeting to make a report.

The following are our activities during September and October 2002.

  • On last September we invited a native speaker to stay in our town for a couple day. We really enjoy having a nice friendly friend from overseas country. We have an opportunity to have conversation and learning English directly from her. It is one of EPC program to invite a volunteer to stay with us for free accommodation at the hotel or at our houses if he/she would like to stay around a family, to know the real family life in our town, along three days. We serve our traditional food and free escort to any tourist resort in our town. In connecting with this program we would be glad if you would like to help us to organize a volunteer to be here in our town. Everything is aimed to give a chance to our club members to improve their English.
  • On October 26 and 27, we held Bromo Study Tour Program. Followed by 30 persons of our members including Denny's Bunch student. For some reasons not all of our club members could join this program. We really enjoy having a recreation and a chance to have a chat with foreigners.

Once again thanks for being our helping in learning English and our best neighbour. Just like other people said, KGRE also give us good understanding between Australia and Indonesia. I agree if this understanding is very important like you always said 'Good Neighbours Make Good Friends'. Keep on strengthen our friendship through this lovely way. Because only they are who have love who will never think about what we get, but what we can give.

Club of the Month - February 2003

Rapals Club in Bandung

During 2002 KGRE has met members and advisor of this Club, Ibu Sri Mulyati in Bandung when KGRE visited the city. They were all keen English learners as shown in their club reports.

Dear Captain Kang Guru,

A big hello from members of RAPALS Club in Bandung!! How are you all Kang Guru team? The members of the club would like to say a very big thank you for sending us the POUCH and the Reading Class Sets. We really enjoy using them. As a teacher at the club I'd like to inform you that the English ability of most members is at elementary level so meetings are held more than twice a week. We usually discuss the common problems we have - grammar. Besides being member of an English Club most of them do other school activities as well such as scout, youth red cross, electronics, traditional dance, reading-writing Qur'an and sport. Each meeting of the club is attended by different students as we can not find a suitable time to get together.

Some of the activities during meetings are:

  •   Listening to KGRE series 28.09 from Kang Guru in the Classroom package. The aim of this activity is to promote KGRE show as most of the members do not listen to KGRE.

w   Giving comments or opinions of picture given. Each member got different picture. The aim was to encourage members to speak. Hopefully their vocabulary can increase.

  •   Drawing pictures by listening to the instructions given such as draw a picture of a table then draw a vase on it etc. Then we compared each picture which was the best suitable with the instructions. After I gave the example on how to do it, then other member did the same with different picture and different instruction. The aim of this activity was to practise speaking and listening skill.

w Translating an Indonesian song into English version. It was fun activity since most of the members like music and I tried to find a song they really like. I also told a little bit about the artist. At the end of the activity I asked member to retell about the artist.

  •  Describing our own houses using phrases 'there is _', 'there are _', 'there was _', and 'there were _'. I asked members to listen to what other members said, so they would be able to answer the quiz at the end of this activity.

w   Playing favorite game. We sit on chairs in a circle. One member stand in the circle and ask a question and the answer is only 'yes' or 'no'. For example: Do you like English? The members who answer 'yes' should stand and change the seats quickly. A member who is unable to find an empty seat should stand in the circle and ask a different question from the previous ones. It is really fun. We enjoy the game and practise English as well.

Other interesting activities that the Club has done are:

w   Ibu Mulyati invited one of her friends who teaches at SMU Sandhy Putra to talk to members in one of our club meetings. The aim was to practise their speaking and listening skill.

w    A few weeks ago some members visited an exhibition at STT (Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi) Telkom. It has got such a great English Club. Some of its members won debating competition for ASEAN level. They were so happy we visited their club. We asked a lot of questions about their club. They invited us to come to their club meeting which is held every Sunday at 2 p.m. Our club also invited them to come to our meeting. We informed them about Kang Guru and asked them if they are interested in joining the KGCC.

w   A few days ago we went for a camping to a very nice place in Bandung Selatan called 'Gunung Puntang'. This activity was not only for the club members but also for the whole students of SLTP Sandhy Putra. When we went for hiking on the last day, we did remember you Captain Kang Guru as we know that one of your hobbies is climbing mountains. Will you join us if we hold such an activity?

For next meeting I have planned to invite native speakers from Radio Maestro which also hold an English interactive show every Sunday evening from 8 - 9 pm called 'Talk To Us'.

Once again thank you very much for supporting us in our language study.

Club of the Month for March 2003

Wajo English Lovers Club
South Sulawesi

On January 28th, 2003, KGRE visited three small school s in Desa Salobulo, Kec. Sajoanging, South Sulawesi. Pak Muksin leader of the KG Connection Club, Wajo English Lover's Club, invited Kevin to meet his students and to take part in some of their English language activities. Under the instruction of Pak Muksin, the students in his 4 schools are learning English in very innovative and interesting ways. He uses KGRE regularly and KGRE is happy to support him in whichever ways it can. Even though KGRE is primarily written for Pre-Intermediate to Intermediate English language learners, Pak Muksin manages to adapt KGRE magazines and POUCH bulletins for use with his young charges. Parents of the students and the community in general support Pak Muksin's enthusiasm and hard work fully. Days can be tough for this enthusiastic teacher as he often has to walk between schools and in this 'off the beaten track' desa, that means significant distances.

Under great leadership of Pak Muksim, this English Club, which is located in remote area of South Sulawesi, has developed into an active English club with their enthusiastic members. KGRE was given the opportunity to visit this Club in late January 2003. The following are some of their activities as written in their Club Activity Reports to KGRE.

'Hello, how are you today. I do hope, all crews of KGRE are fine and healthy also their work will be running well. By the way, in November - December 2002, I have the 22 students of SD (Elementary School children) SD Negeri No. 366 Salobulo.

Here are some of my club activities in Elementary School children SD Negeri No. 366 Salobulo'.

Keen and ready for action!

Kangguru in the Classroom
'I use the Kang Guru in the Classroom once a week in SD Negeri 366 Salobulo. Listening to the native speaker in the Kang Guru in the Classroom package and to Australian music are very useful for them. That motivates them to study English. Even my students try to imitate the voices of singers. Even though my students are Elementary School children they are clever and smart too'.

Picture Guess Quiz
'For Elementary School children, I use the pictures of animals and fruits so that my students can guess that pictures (the name of the animals and fruits). I think this way is very good for them to train their brain on catching the lesson, so I can see the success of my English teaching system for my students'.

Music and English

At last, I would like to say thank you very much for helping my club and I always hope KGRE the best, of course'.

Three fellow teachers from the schools where Muksin works.

KGRE would like to thank the Makassar Tourism and Training Project (MTTP) in Makassar for their assistance by supplying their driver and a project vehicle to KGRE for the 5 hour trip to Wajo. Besides this valuable assistance, MTTP also facilitated a meeting with English language teachers in Makassar who are members of MTTP's own Kang Guru Connection Club - the Makassar Tourism English Club. Last year the project assisted with the first KG Connection Club Get Together as well. Team Leader, Lawrence Vandenberg, together with project personnel, Warren and Francis, made KGRE most welcome and now plans for KGRE to be actively involved in MTTP's education activities in Papua in the middle of 2003. MTTP is an IAPSD AusAID project in Indonesia.

Club of the Month for April 2003

Student English Activities
Kediri, East Java

Dear KGCC,

It's the Student English Activities Club.

In this Club Activities Report we have some activities during September 2002 until February 2003. Some of them are special activities :

  • Touring in English

All the club members went to Ubalan, a water source like a lake in Kalasan. In there we did activity in English. At the same time we inaugurated 3 of new members and to appreciate the model members to be followed by other members. One of them is Eva who is the 2nd winner of speech contest on IKIP PGRI Kediri.

  • Drawing of Story

During the semester holiday we had a duty called 'drawing of story (cerita bergambar)'. This duty was for all members. They must drawing a picture or writing about their holiday. Then they have to speak in front of other members. And we have one winner. It is a drawing called 'My holiday train' by Lutfi (see picture). It's a funny drawing for a high school student and his story is very attractive with his action like a train and passenger who is on.

And thank you for sending December Reading Class Sets. Do you know, the Reading Class Sets and copies of the Pouch is very interesting and popular with our club members. They must queue up if they want to borrow it or they can copy it. Can you permit it? See you in our next report.

PS: This report writing was done by Eva, the winner of 'Can you write report for our club? This is a new activity in our club in every four months.'

Club of the Month
May 2003

Club Profile
This English club in Jepara does not regularly send in their CARs however they are still very active doing various activities with their club members as mentioned in their recent report to KGRE.

Important Note: Young Jepara English Club has submitted a proposal for a KG Connection Club Get Together for Central Java. KGRE has accepted the proposal and the Get Together will be held in mid or late August 2003. Other KG Connection Clubs in the area are invited to participate in the event and to contact Young Jepara English Club for details.

Dear KGCC,

Firstly, we would like to apologise to all of you because in a long time we don't send Club Activities Report. That is because we don't really have interesting activities to report just routine activities. But to tell you the truth we always try to arrange a various activities.

Discussion Time in Jepara

Secondly, thank you very much for your really very big attention to us by sending us your POUCH Bulletin and KGRE magazine. You are really my best friend. Wish God always Bless you and all of us. Amen.

An outing to the beach - fun and games.

On this occasion we would like to report some of our activities which we think deserve enough attention to report and to let the other clubs know. Our activities are:

  • Routine discussion. Usually we used article from English magazine and then we read and translated together and then we discussed.
  • Looking for new members in order to make our Club stay alive. Usually we make a brochure or announcement and then we spread and stick them in Warnet or in public places and campus.
  • English Debate. We looked for a topic and then we discussed. We divided our member to two groups. One group must be a Pro and the second group must be in a Contra opinion.
  • Listening to English cassette that we got from KGRE
  • Translation from Indonesia to English together from a certain topic.
  • Visit the other English Club in Jepara.
  • Go to internet to see KGRE website and make some activities.
  • With some other club in Jepara we made an English club together. We called it 'GLOBAL ENGLISH CLUB'. The members of this clubs are from some English clubs including our club. This club was launched in February 2003. We think this will be very useful to improve English ability of Jepara young people.

We hope that this report will be useful for other clubs and can improve our English to be better and better. Thank you very much for your kind attention.

Club of the Month for June 2003

Pioneer English Conversation Club
Gunungpati, Central Java

The Pioneer English Conversation Club have admitted that they were having hard times in running their English Club with decreasing members and changes in the organisations structure. But they have passed it well and they're happy to share their experience and activities with other KGCCs
.

Dear Kang Guru,
First of all let we thank to only God, because of God's blessing we are still be given chance to meet again and Pioneer can survive from hard condition. We want to inform you that we have some important news about Pioneer. They are:

  1. New members increasing
  2. What you believe that our hard condition ie. decreasing of Pioneer members will be passed well sooner come true and that we can survive by having many new members now. You know, actually on that time we almost gave up, fortunately by hard struggling such as advertised existence of Pioneer, persuade people for coming into our club, we can survive until now.
  3. Outdoor Program

We organised an outdoor program in Kopeng, Salatiga. To tell you the truth that was a good and nice program because there were many people participated. Moreover we also invited two guests, one was native speaker from Netherlands and the other is English teacher from one college in Semarang.

  1. Go to School Program

We also have good program which has been running well, that is 'Go to School' program. It is done by giving English training for conversation in Senior High School and by co-operating with the Headmaster and English teachers. We proposed this activity as one of the extracurricular in the SMU. The mechanism is like this: we come to SMU and we give conversation materials to students who are joined before by their teachers. The materials are about daily conversation which come from Pioneer team and the teacher. The program got good response from students and from the staff teachers (especially English teachers and the Headmaster). Actually this is one of our ways in socialising and promoting Pioneer to our surrounding in order to get more members.

Now the program is being temporarily terminated because the result of the program is being analyzed by teacher team. Actually we were being given three months probation by the teacher team. And those three months were up. We are now waiting decision from the teacher team whether this program will be continued or terminated.

  1. General Election
  2. As you advised in your previous letter - it is the best way to apply democracy in the club because our club consists of many people coming from many educational background and having many interests in making material of discussions. And one of the indicators that we apply democracy is by having general election in the management system of our club. By having new leader, as the consequence, we also review and rearrange our old programs. Not only that, now we also make and plans some supreme programs for the Pioneer's future.
  3. Coloring Competition

All of participants were kindergartens in Gunungpati Regency. Of course we had important goals in that event that is one of our ways in socialising and publishing existence of Pioneer but that is just our short term goal. And the long term goal is we are trying to build English zone in Gunungpati.

Your package - cassette and booklets that you delivered to us is very useful. You know, in our weekly meeting we always give special time named by 'additional lesson' for using your package. But because of limited time we are only able to use your package more or less thirty minutes. If Kang Guru Radio English has new release of package please deliver them for use because we finished studying the old one.

To tell you the truth, we are here right waiting for your contacts, both in the form of correspondence and in the form of visiting. And last but not least, don't forget to visit us if KGRE team come or visit RRI Semarang.

KGRE Note: Kevin plans to be in the Semarang area in late August, 2003 attending a KG 'Get Together' in Jepara.

Club of the Month for July 2003

Nurul Ihsan Meeting Club
Palu, Central Sulawesi

Club Profile

Under enthusiastic leadership from Irfan, the Club's President, this new English club in Palu has become an active English club and has interesting activities to share to other English clubs.

Hard at work!

Club Meeting every Saturday afternoon

We made discussion or short story about recent international news like Iraq problems, SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), Movement Aceh Independent (GAM) and other problems in Indonesia. We also discuss about education, environment, government etc in our area. We always make games after discussion because we think it makes good spirit for club members.

One problem we feel difficult is how to make our members can speak English fluently. Most of us still using bahasa Indonesia when we make discussion and we always look for method to improve it and we hope KGRE give attention to us like giving suggestion or facility like cassettes and guidebook or anything.

One problem we feel difficult is how to make our members can speak English fluently. Most of us still using bahasa Indonesia when we make discussion and we always look for method to improve it and we hope KGRE give attention to us like giving suggestion or facility like cassettes and guidebook or anything.

** Note from KGRE: KGRE Reading Class Set is available for active member of KGCC and we request the Clubs to give feedback after using the Reading Set.

We looked for some people who ever went to Australia for study (lecturers at Tadulako University in Palu) and then we visited them and asked about Australian education, culture and activities in Australia. Of course we found out many interesting stories. They told that Australian government gives opportunity to everybody who wants to continue their study and provide scholarship for them.

We have been teaching English for upbringing every Monday evening but we find it difficult because we haven't found a good method for them. We make three classes ie. for children, adolescent and adults. Of course those classes have different lessons. We always prepare games for them. 'Look at mine'.

Cooperation with other English Clubs in Palu

About two weeks ago we visited 'best English and music club' and talked about English Clubs meeting in Palu. We decided to invite all English clubs in Palu to make one activity. We also want to introduce and promote English to primary, junior and high schools students because there are only a little students who want to learn English. They feel English is very difficult and don't want to try. So we want to be united and teach them English. That is a long program for the future. We want our meeting club become a place for English course and professional.

Club of the Month for August, 2003

Shark Club in Surabaya, East Java

Club Profile

This English club has only 15 members. Most of them are SD students, one SLTP students and three SMU students. And yet they are all very keen in studying English and makes their English club a very active one. They have club meeting every Sunday and they always listen to KGRE program on RRI Surabaya and always watch the TVRI English news program every morning. They have been active in sending entries to Language activities from POUCH and have won great prizes from KGRE. A good example for other clubs to follow.

Dear Kang Guru,

We say thank you very much for sending us the Kang Guru magazine, the POUCH, an English book plus a few music tapes and new KGRE T-shirts. Once again, thank you very much. We love - love - Kang Guru.

We also say congratulations to Captain Kang Guru. Our club felt very happy and glad after we watched Mr Kevin appear on TVRI News on June 4th, 2003 at  07.15 until 07.30. We always watch TVRI news every morning because TVRI has a good English program. We felt very happy and glad when Mr Kevin appeared on TVRI. He was asked many questions by broadcaster, one example is the name of Kang Guru. Then Kevin explained all of them dealing with Kang Guru program, aims, club members, Australia's response, etc.

Dealing with promoting KGRE, our club has some ideas.

  1. Promote KGRE not only on TVRI but also on other TV stations such as RCTI, SCTV, TPI and Indosiar.
  2. Work together with private radio stations.
  3. Participating in education exhibitions.
  4. Kang Guru has many Club members. Through these clubs KGRE can give duty to each club to coordinate with English teachers in SD, SLTP, SMU to promote KGRE. Then the teachers can inform their students. At least with this information student can listen to KGRE on RRI station. Our club thinks that this is an effective way for promoting KGRE to new listeners in Indonesia.

We also always listen to KGRE every Sunday morning before we start our regular activity in Club.

Date Activities
March 2nd, 2003 Listening cassette and guess the meaning of each word
March 16th, 2003 Introduce things around us

Club of the Month for September, 2003

Best Forum Club
Makassar

Club Profile

Best Forum English Club is one of the first English Clubs that joined KGCC in 2001. This club has shown their great commitment to the  KGCC network by sending their wonderful reports to KGRE regularly. They also helped organise the first KG Club Get Together in Makassar in June 2002. KGRE is happy to have Best Forum English Club as CLUB of THE MONTH once again. Other English Clubs can learn from Best Forum English Club. Establishing  an English Club means hard work, great dedication and commitment from all of the member in order to  make it a active and to deliver benefits to all  members.

Club Leader Syahrir with his radio guest Ifayanti in Makassar recently

This only part of the Club Activity Report
received in late August 2003

During March until early July 2003 we have been doing our regular meetings with a wide range of club activities. The language activities were the combinations between our English training course and the club activities interactions, they are as follows:

  1. Public Speaking Training and Contest (PSC)
The PSC took more than 24 meetings for training and writing skills then took another 12 meetings to run PSC. The contest was successfully conducted at the end of May 2003.

  2. During March to May we intensively used a variety of KGRE listening audio tape that we had already got so far in order to practise and refresh our members listening skills especially because we mostly needed for our final exam of the last year of SMK for TOEIC Test. Frankly, the KGRE material really helps us with audio tape to get used to native speakers’ PISS (Pronunciation, Intonation, Sound System, Stress of words).

  3. In April to May, BF Club was regularly invited by a group of Blind students who are interested to learn and get to know about KGRE / KGCC program. Our president and Adviser visited the group of the students and presenting about KGRE and its mission and vision. As a result, the group want to be linked into KGCC.
  4. During April to Mayour Monday Meeting activities used the April magazine and reading set for our club language activities. Thank you for putting our photo in the magazine. They are very appreciated.
  5. During June 2003 we had activities such as -
  6. visiting other KGCC members and participated in their club discussion and games
  7. inviting special guest to our club and introduced KGRE magazine and its program
  8. promoting KGRE to other English learners from private English course
  9. visiting places of interest in order to meet western travelers and practise English with them. Unfortunately only a very few westerners visited Makassar recently due to Bali Blast may be.

  10. From June to Middle July. We do the following activities:
  11. Joining RRI pro 2 Interactive Show, giving a call
  12. Keep listening to KGRE show on RRI Makassar every Friday afternoon but the show unfortunately is very short.
  13. Organising a Wall Magazine Contest using KGRE segment as inspirations. The members create their own composition based on a wide range of legends from their own hometown and then issued in the wall magazine.
  14. We also learn English literature especially English poetry reading and present it in the farewell party of our school in the form of Skit Performance.

In June 2003 we have elected a new president of our club. We hope to make a new innovation and creation with the new president.

Club of the Month for October, 2003

Junior Club– Mojokerto, East Java

Club Profile

The following are excerpts from Junior’s Club Reports which regularly arrive at the KGRE office. Many thanks to this club for their continuing efforts to be an active and enthusiastic member of the KG Connection Club network.

August Club Activity Report
It is great to know that you would love to visit our school. It takes about 2 hours from Surabaya to our school by bus or car. Unfortunately it is impossible to do it this year. Next year our school will join the LSS (Lingkungan Sekolah Sehat) competition again. I think it is better if you come to our school next year if possible.

Our members always change with the new students every year, President and the others too. So we have to learn to do everything and to be President and others. As the years before we always held Language Month Activity. We are going to hold this activity in the last week of October. This is one of the ways to show the existence of KGRE in Junior. By opening prizes and souvenirs from KGRE in front of the students at our Monday Flag Ceremony arouses the new students to know more about KGRE and Junior in our school. Unfortunately we lost our picture of  our language laboratory activity. Actually we enjoy the Reading Class Set. But listening to activities is more difficult than reading. We have some difficulties to listen to a long text or story. Listener’s Letters is easier to understand because it is shorter besides Idioms, Funky Language and Indo Music like Padi, Andien and Marcell. We know that we have to practice more to understand English by listening.

 September Club Activity Report
Thanks for sending us the magazine and bulletins. Unfortunately we always have limited time to do and join the POUCH competitions.  eg. It must be received at KGRE before September 15th, yet we received the POUCH in the early September. How come? It takes about one week to mail from Mojokerto to Bali. We do hope we will get it earlier.

Next month we will have the Healthy School Environment competition for provincial level. And next year is for National level. We failed last year yet we are sure now. As our club sponsor would you mind sending us your spanduk or something like that to show KGRE to the people in our village even the special people from DIKNAS Kabupaten, Province and National.

Thanks for this relationship. We are waiting for the next information.

KGRE's Response Oct 2nd

We were very happy to hear from you and to get your CAR for September.

It is great to receive the response you sent from the last POUCH with your Mini Profile and your Organizational information. This is important – that not just a few people control everything. Members need responsibilities as this makes them more active and needed. Perhaps you could consider this at a future meeting. Give members jobs to do and write it all down in the chart. I hope that you use and take full advantage of the new October - November POUCH and remember to give us some Feedback on what you do with it. Enter the competitions too and be quick as time flies you know!

I am very interested in your Healthy School Environment Competition and I want you tell me all about it. I might be able to use some of it on the KGRE website or even in the KGRE magazine. We cannot send you a spanduk as we do not know what you want on it but maybe we can help you in some way. Please call Ogi and discuss it with her as soon as you can.

Club of the Month for November 2003

The Six Sense – Denpasar, Bali

Club Profile

The Six Sense is a new English Club with only 7 active members. The members are all females and yet they have already involved in positive activities.

Dear Kang Guru.

Thank you for your letter and thank you for accepting our club. The following are our activities:

  • Cooking and Going to Cinema.

These activities are good for all the members because of some reasons; we want to learn English with an interesting and useful subject. Besides we love cooking although we are not the experts. Each of us has our own favorite food, for example Ely loves cooking fried rice, cap cay, puyung hay. Diah likes making spaghetti, Mas Mirah, Mas Manik, Aries and Ully like to cook some cakes.

When we have enough money we go to the cinema together. We love to watch comedy, romantic and action movie. But if we don’t have enough money we just rent a video cassette and watch it together at one member’s house.

  • We know there are some English radio stations in Denpasar such as Paradise FM, Radio Plus, Duta FM, Radio Cassanova. If possible you can contact those radio stations. We think half an hour every day with KGRE will be good.
  • Our club members being females only because we often hang out together and chat about our problems and try to find out the solutions. We know that if there is a boy in our club all the activities will make him bored so that we feel more comfortable with females only.

We want to tell you about our last activity when we join The Kuta Karnival – ‘A Celebration of Life’. We registered ourselves to the coordinators of the Kuta Karnival. The coordinators need about 80 volunteers to help them. Some of the volunteers were foreigners who are studying BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing) at Udayana University. Finally on 11th October 2003 we went to Kuta by motorcycle. First, the coordinators gave us a stamp – it meant that we were the participants. Next, the chairman decided to make a lot of groups. Each group consisted of 8 persons. There were some people used costume from many countries. For example some of us wore the mummy costume and Cleopatra from Egypt, others acted like Indians girl, Brazilian girl and the most funniest costume was the man wearing a bottle costume.

There were many people watched us. Most of them were foreigners and they were very excited to see us for the first time. They took many pictures from the carnival. We were very happy and we felt glad because we could join this kind of activity. We wished next year we will join the same one.

That’s all for now. Our next report will be about Saraswati Day. See you on the next story.

Special Club Activities for December 2003

Gazebo English Club – KGCC # 007

We did a special activity once a month. It’s called ‘HAPPY SUNDAY’ because it happens on Sunday. It was the first time we went to Ja’as mountain next to our place. It’s just for about 15 m, but if we want to reach to the top of mountain we must walk for about 1 km. It was dry season, so it was as hot as fire. The students had to imagine the mountain as Borobudur temple. We divided the students into 6 groups. Every groups has one guide and three foreigners. We will choose the Best Guide and Foreigner. The guide had to explain about Borobudur in a detail and the foreigner had to ask some questions. They must speak English and if they break the rule they will get punishment. We started to hike the mountain at 8am. We had to take a rest in some places because it was tired enough to reach the top of mountain. Yup, we reached the top ‘horeeeeee’ the student shouted. Even it was hot but we were happy. From the top of the mountain we could see beautiful scenery. We admired God’s creation. We could see many mountains around Trenggalek. After taking a rest and drinking, we did quiz show. Then we went down. We arrived at Gazebo at 11.00am. While taking a rest we were listening to music. We gave stickers and prize to the best guide and the best foreigner. The prize was a book and postcard from KGRE. We planned to go to different places next time. It will be fascinating program.

  • We have a ‘charity box’. It is made of wood. Every Sunday we pass it through members. They should fill the box by putting money in it. It is all up to them how much money they want to donate. One hundred rupiah or one thousand rupiah or more, it is just OK. Sometimes in a week, the committee got five until ten thousands rupiah or even more from the charity box.
  • Membership registration. Every participants that want to be PEMCC members is charged with ten thousand rupiah for administration fee. They will get a membership card and one copy of KGRE magazine.
  • Sell Bazaar coupon. We cooperate with a café. We sell coupon to members and others participants. We did this once in a year. This activity is also good for strengthening our friendship relation.
  • Monthly Contribution (iuran). Many of PEMCC Members are adults who already got a job for living. They do not mind to contribute one thousand rupiah each month.

Buana Pura English Club – KGCC # 022

Game Activities. We divided members into four groups. Each group had to find two words in the KGRE magazine. The groups kept them. They could not tell them to the other groups. One of the students from each group came in front of the class. They wrote the words in jumbled order on the blackboard. The other group had to find what the word was and translate to Indonesian. The winner was the group who had the highest score. Other group had to sing a song as a punishment.
