KGRE magazines are sent to clubs for the members to share. If club members want to have their own magazine they need to write to us and ask for one. It’s not difficult. Just write us a letter (or SMS) of at least 75 words. Tell us about yourself. You might like to tell us about your hobbies and interests, your family, your town or village, your school or university, your plans for the future, your English club. These are just a few examples of what you could write about. Your letter should be individual and original (not copied from a teacher’s example or from a friend’s letter). Don’t worry if you make mistakes. Don’t forget to tell us your complete address, including post code. We’ll send you the magazine four times a year but when you see a request in the magazine for our readers to reregister you must do that. And don’t forget to tell us if your address changes. Happy reading!

Would you like to enter SMS competitions just for club members? Send us your name and club name and club number and we’ll put you on our club member SMS list. Soon we’ll SMS all club members on the list with a simple task and there’ll be a prize for the winner.

Would you like to make friends with other KGCC members by email? It’s easy if you join the KGCC email group. If you’d like to join you must write a letter or email to Cheryl and she’ll send you an invitation to join by email. When you send an email to the group everyone who is a member will be able to read it and reply to you.

Have you checked out the KGRE website? There’s lots of information about KGCCs. Just go to our website (www.kangguru.org/) and click on Connection Clubs. You’ll find club profiles, latest club news and Clubs of the Month. There’s also a link to Quick Fix. These common mistakes could be the good topics for language activities at club meetings. If you click on Travel you’ll find stories and photos of all our trips, including club visits.

Don’t forget that you must send us Club Activity Reports (CARs) every six to eight weeks, all year. In the last POUCH (January – March 2007) we included some ideas about what to include in your CARs.

THE ENVIRONMENT and KGCCs 2007

The staff at KGRE are already preparing for the September 2007 magazine. The theme will be the Environment. Now that’s an important issue for sure! Agree? KGRE wants clubs and members to carefully read the KGRE Environmental Task Handout that arrives with this POUCH. There are plenty of copies for everyone!

PLEASE NOTE: Club leaders, please make sure that all members have access to this handout. Encourage members to think seriously about joining in with the tasks OR at least one of the environmental tasks from KGRE.

By joining with at least one of these special tasks, KGCCs and their members will:

  • be using real English in the context of an important 21st century problem
  • enjoy learning more about the environment
  • make contact with Australian students and teachers
  • win prizes for the clubs
  • be helping KGRE with the September 2007 magazine.
