Dear KGCC,
Firstly, we would like to apologise to all of you because in a long time
we haven’t sent our Club Activities Reports. That is because we
don’t really have interesting activities to report, just a routine
activities. But to tell you the truth we always try to arrange many various
activities.
On this occasion we would like to report some of our activities which
we think deserve enough to report and to let other clubs know. Our activities
are:
- Routine discussion. Usually we use articles from English magazines
and then we read and translate them together and then we discuss them.
- Looking for new members in order to make our Club stay alive. Usually
we make brochures or announcements and then we place them in Warnets
or in public places and on the campus.
- English Debate. We look for a topic and then we discuss it. We divide
our member into two groups. One group must be a Pro and the second group
must be of a Contra opinion.
- Listening to English cassettes that we get from KGRE.
- Translate from Indonesian to English as a group activity.
- Visit the other English Clubs in the Jepara area.
- Go to the internet to see the KGRE website and make some activities.
- With some other clubs in Jepara we made an
English
club together. We called it ‘GLOBAL ENGLISH CLUB’. The members
of this club are from some English clubs including our club. This club
was launched in Fe-bruary 2003. We think this will be very useful to
improve English ability of Jepara young people.
Important note: The Young Jepara English Club is organising the KGCC
Get Together for Central Java which will be held on 31 August 2003.PECC
Gunungpati in Semarang and Fortune English Club in Kudus will also attend
the Get Together. |

The Pioneer English Conversation Club have admitted
that they were having a hard time in running their English Club with decreasing
members and changes in the organisational structure. But they have passed
it well and they’re happy to share their experience and activities
with other KGCCs.
- New members increasing
Whould you believe about our hard condition ie. decreasing numbers of
Pioneer members and we could only survive by having many new members.
You know, actually at that time we almost gave up. Fortunately by struggling
hard and with activities such as advertising the existence of Pioneer
we have persuaded people to join our club. We are surviving once again.
- Go to School Program
We also have good program which has been running well. It is the ‘Go
to School’ program. It is done by giving English training for conversation
in Senior High Schools and by co-operating with the Headmaster and English
teachers. We proposed this activity as one of the extracurricular activites
in the SMU. The mechanism is like this. We go to the SMU and we give conversation
materials to students who have all met together with the help of their
teachers. The materials are about daily topics which come from our Pioneer
Team and the teacher. The program has received good responses from students
and from the staff, especially English teachers and the Headmaster. Actually
this is one of our ways in socialising and promoting Pioneer to the surrounding
communities in order to get more members.
To tell you the truth, we are here right waiting for your contacts, both
in the form ofNote from KGRE: What a terrific idea! Kevin is looking forward
to meeting your club at the Get Together in Jepara in August.
