This is a part of what Komang Kanti Kumara from Alasangker village, North
Bali has to say about the AusAID funded water project recently completed in
his village. You can hear more about it on KGRE in March and on the AusAID Page
of the KGRE website in February.
bantuan sebesar 28 juta lima ratus tujuh puluh sekian”.
Winners of last month’s
KGCC Language Activity
The winning response to our Language Activity in the last KGCC ‘bulletin’
is from the Best Forum English Club in Makassar. Great entry guys and it is
so good that I am going to use it on the website and also on the radio program.
Here is their entry.
Driving in Australia
- To get a driving license people have to take 3 different theoretical
tests; Learner’s Licence (L), Provisional License (P), Unrestricted
License
- Drivers have to be very careful when turning left by keeping an
eye on the right in case someone is coming. They had priority.
- Drivers cannot offer a bribe to Police as he/she will get into
even more trouble.
- There are often speed cameras on the side of the road and not Police.
- Avoid using the horn unless in an emergency.
- Drivers cannot go against a red light as he may get a fine ranging
from A$200 - $2000, lose his license or even end up in jail.

Driving in Indonesia
- Obtaining the driving license in Indonesia seems to be just a ‘formality’
meaning that a driving license applicant does not have to do a driving
test as long as he/she is willing to pay money to the ‘SIM’ testing
organiser. This is now the real phenomena happening in Indonesia.
- Drivers in Indonesia tend to just turn immediately without looking
for other traffic.
- Drivers often offer money to police and they just don’t care. It
seems that they are both willingly involved in this collusion.
- There are no cameras at the sides of the road and only occasionally
are there Police.
- The Indonesian driver uses the horn very often for safety reasons.
- Red, green, yellow light - doesn’t matter. (Kevin)
