Clubs of the Month

The Six Sense Club, Denpasar - Bali
November 2003

The Six Sense is a new English Club with only 7 active members. The members are all females and yet they have already involved in positive activities.

Cooking and Going to Cinema
These activities are good for all members because of some reasons; we want to learn English with an interesting and useful subject. Besides we love cooking although we are not the experts. Each of us has our own favourite food, for example Ely loves cooking fried rice, Diah likes making spaghetti, Mas Mirah, Mas Manik, Aries and Ully like to cook some cakes.
When we have enough money we go to the cinema together. We love to watch comedy, romantic and action movie. But if we don’t have enough money we just rent a video cassette and watch it together at one member’s house. Here is Movie Mania Selection with report on ‘Hollow Man’ film :
‘This movie was telling about scientist called Mr Sebastian Canine who invented a formula that could make the animal became invisible. His team consisted of six people and one of them was his ex girl friend. Then, he began a new project and used the formula for himself as he wanted to be invisible without the permission from the Minister of Security. He succeeded but then he couldn’t return as human because there was a mistake. The formula, it just worked for animals not for human. The horror began when he was mad with his ex girl friend who had an affair with another person in the team. He killed one by one all the person who recognised him as invisible man. Well, I think it’s better for you to watch this movie because what we can see in this film is not only about research but also love, trust and broken heart.’

We want to tell you about our last activity when we joined The Kuta Karnival - ‘A Celebration of Life’. We registered ourselves to the coordinators of the Kuta Karnival. The Coordinators needed about 80 volunteers to help them. Some of the volunteers were foreigners who are studying BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing) at Udayana University. Finally on 11th October 2003 we went to Kuta by motorcycle. First, the coordinators gave us a stamp - it meant that we were the participants. Next, the chairman decided to make a lot of groups. Each group consisted of 8 persons and had different duties. For example some of us wore the Mummy costume and Cleopatra from Egypt, others acted like Indians girls, Brazilian girls and the most funniest costume was the man wearing bottle costume. Things were messy in the changing room. The Brazilian girls were confused with their costume at first they thought the pants was the shirt and the shirt was the pants. The most difficult costume was the mummies. It was needed many help from Fransisca. She gave an instruction for the mummies to scare the people surrounding us especially the children. The mummies (us) were surprised because the mission was altered. We must pushed the Cleopatra’s throne. We really disappointed when we looked at the Cleopatra because the Cleopatra was the pretty boy and we agreed to make him mad with us. We walked along four kilometers and we passed the ground zero. We prayed for a few minutes there to honours people who died in the tragedy. When the mummies (us) got tired, we just left the throne moved by itself and it scared Cleopatra. We laughed so many times and it made his make up which he kept in his chest fell down. We often made the Cleopatra histeric and screaming until we came back to Anggrek Hotel. We made another turn with the throne and the Cleopatra felt tremble. People much enjoyed this attraction. Especially when Mr Bottle shared teh botol SOSRO to all the children. This activity was really fun and the most interesting time in our life.
