I
was very lucky to have the opportuny to visit two active KGRE Connection English
Clubs in Lombok in mid December 2004. They were the Alfa English Club in Mataram
and the English Speaking Club in Selong. The good thing was
that
although the two clubs were at different and far away locations they are actually
friends. Clubs’ leaders, Fadhil from Alfa English Club and Nuruddin from
English Speaking Club, are in regular contact with each other. Another example
of ‘friends helping friends’ - something that we encourage all clubs
to do!
Both clubs had just recruited new members. It was a perfect opportunity for
KGRE to meet with the old as well as the new
members
of the club and to inform them about KGRE and the benefit of joining English
clubs. During the two-hour meeting I saw great interest from the students about
KGRE and the services it has and they were eager to get prizes from KGRE. They
were fun days and a very worthwhile visit! (by Ogi)
PS. I admired the banner that was placed in front of the STKIP Hamzanwadi - Selong. Thanks heaps pals for doing that!
Why don’t you carry out a meeting that will involve directly all KGCC boards? So that they can communicate with you not only through magazine but also direct interaction among them and it certainly makes our unity on KGCC become closer as your saying “Good Neighbours Make Good Friends” could be actualised in reality.
We have been invited to visit Madura in early April this year by the Pioneer English Club in Sumenep to conduct a Teacher Workshop and a Language Forum. We will invite your club members to attend the Language Forum that is planned for Friday the 1st of April, 2005.
Later this year the Connection Clubs in Makassar are planning to hold their second KGRE Connection Club Get Together. Their first one was a great success back in 2002. Clubs need to initiate these types of meeting and then KGRE will support the activity by attending and helping with arrangements.
At 6pm twenty two members from the five KG Connection Clubs in Makassar met Kevin at the ‘Istana Laut Seafood’ restaurant for dinner. It was a good opportunity for Kevin to meet with members of these clubs and to inform them of the latest news from KGRE. The clubs were the Best Forum # 3, PEMCC # 21, ECC# 34, Benteng Panynyua # 39 and MAKES # 49. The members enjoyed receiving the latest KGRE magazine - ‘hot of the press’. Participants also played a great scanning/reading game called ‘Spot the Information’. Prizes included packages of KGRE merchandise. It was a fun night. But more important were the questions asked. Participants asked many questions about club membership, activities and the plans for KGRE for the next few years. Plans for a second Makassar based KGRE Get Together for mid 2005 were initiated and hopefully that will go ahead this year. All who attended were keen to chat and interact with members of other clubs and all in all it was a very successful three hours of eating, chatting and laughing.
Thank you to the Clubs who have sent their suggestion
and design for the new KGCC sticker. We shall decide within next month
and produce the new KGCC sticker. |
