October 2006 - Sky English Club
#33 in Cianjur, Central Java
Cheryl visited this club in September to deliver a prize
they won in a POUCH competition (see Pouch Oct-Dec2006 edition). She
was very impressed by the attitude of the club members, some of whom
are English teachers, the others students. Many of them had never spoken
to a native speaker before but they all tried very hard to use their
English. Best of all, they weren’t afraid of making mistakes,
and they helped each other when someone couldn’t think of the
right word or expression. Here’s part of a Club Activity Report
from Sky English Club that tells us something about their activities:
Talking about our activities, besides our regular meeting
we visited an English course located at the centre of town. Before we
visited we prepared some questions related to the history and management
of this course. Amazingly, the leader of this course welcomed us warmly.
He explained how he runs his course.
We really enjoyed the chat, sharing our ideas and our
experiences with each other. He also showed us many pictures describing
the learning and teaching process of his course. In other words, that
day was very groovy. From that moment we decide to make it part of our
regular program: ‘Sky Goes for a Walk’. In future we plan
to visit a senior English teacher who has outstanding ability. Let us
tell you about the experience of one of our club members, Asep. He’s
a teacher at one senior high school. He tried using a Listening and
Reading Class Set in his school and the response of his students was
good. Beside that the students found that their teacher reads the English
text differently to what they heard on the cassette. Good facilities
make good students.
