KGRE would like to introduce our new staff members to youThe big news from KGRE is that we now have two new staff members - Sue and Cheryl. Sue has been with KGRE for several months working on the SMA Teacher Package. That new teacher package should be finished by September and thanks to Sue for all of her hard work on that package since taking over from Rachel earlier this year. Well Done! To contact Sue just email her - srodger@ialf.edu. Cheryl began working with KGRE on July17th. One of Cheryl’s main tasks will be to work with the KGRE Connection Clubs - that’s you! Beginning in late July, Cheryl will be looking at ways to improve the KGCC network. Do you have any ideas? How do you think we can make the KGCC even better? Write to Cheryl and tell her, okay? You can write a letter or email her - creid@ialf.edu. |

In 1974 she traveled in Indone-sia, then lived in Thailand for 4 years
where she taught English. Two years ago she left her teaching job in Australia
to work as a teacher trainer in a pesantren in East Java. She learned
a lot about the Indonesian education system, Islam and Javanese culture.
Now she wants to learn more about Bali and the other interesting places
in Indonesia she will visit with KangGURU. She has studied French, Thai and Indonesian and has taught Indonesian
and English so she really understands the problems and pleasures people
experience when they study a language. She knows that studying languages
helps us to understand other people, and ourselves, better. She’s
looking forward to meeting lots of keen English language learners and
teachers and helping to create closer ties between Indonesia and Australia
though KangGURU. |
Despite attending a city center school for Young Ladies she was very active in the school netball, tennis and lacrosse teams. She also cycled and played for the North West Junior Lacrosse team traveling all over England to play this barbaric game! After leaving school, she went to Nene College and studied English and Art. After 3 years with her qualifications in her pocket she went to work as a trainee manager with a hotel group in England. This financed her trips to the Far East and eventually in 1983 she moved to Hong Kong. She had several jobs in this exciting city before finally spending almost 5 years with UNHCR and Save the Children Fund teaching at a Vietnamese refugee camp. In 1988 it was time for a change of scene and she moved to Brunei. She spent a happy time there riding polo ponies, jungle trekking, visiting Mulu National Park and staying in longhouses! And teaching at the Government Schools! Next came Jakarta and she lasted 5 years there, teaching English before moving to Bali in June 1998. She doesn’t see herself moving anywhere else now until she retires! |
