SUGGESTION FOR CLUB ACTIVITY

Many people say they are too busy to exercise or play sport, but here’s a good idea. Alimin is a very active young English teacher from Lamongan, East Java. His language club is not yet a KGCC but that doesn’t mean they are not a keen group of learners. Alimin conducts one activity that is worth telling you about.

Every Friday morning, bright and early, he and some of his students go for a long walk. At the end they stop at a warung for a drink and discuss a topic chosen by the students. So, they’re getting fit and improving their English at the same time. What a great idea!

an your club suggest an activity that combines physical exercise and English? It might be something you do already or it might just be an idea you’d like to share with other clubs.

Clubs should write to us before the end of September telling us about their ideas. Write between 50 and 150 words about each idea. It would be great if you could include a drawing or photo. The three best entries will win a stopwatch and three KangGURU
t-shirts for their clubs to encourage fitness and better English.

English Bites - http://www.abcasiapacific.com/englishbites/

‘English Bites’ is a television program and website designed to help improve your English language skills. Every weekday they show a story and then help you understand the language that has been used in it. You can use the website with or without watching the show because the website explains all the stories in detail. Designed for students of the English language in the Asia/Pacific region, English Bites website is increasingly being used by English students in schools in Australia and recent migrants wishing to improve their English skills in the privacy of their own home. This site is researched and written to an extremely high standard and we highly recommend it.

Transport Competition

Congratulations to Sky English Club in Cianjur - West Java, KGCC # 033 for their wonderful entries. The Club has won a Panasonic Combo. We are hoping that a member of the KGRE Staff can visit the club soon to present the prize. More news soon.

Note from KGRE: We are quite surprised that so few clubs entered either the Transport Competition or the Cartoon Competition from the April/June POUCH. In fact, very few clubs sent task entries. We are not sure about this. It has us puzzled here at KGRE. The prizes were good and the competitions fairly simple. Both tasks were designed to get club members talking and discussing and finally drawing. Not too difficult, right? Hopefully more clubs will try to enter the fitness competition in this POUCH - see above.

SMS Gateway

We would like to thank the many club members who have participated in the SMS Gateway that we introduced earlier this year. Unfortunately, as you may know, that SMS system didn’t work very well and we apologise for that. However this is being fixed right now! In our first SMS competition KGRE did receive several SMS messages from club members so we are going to give two of them, who sent correct answers, a special prize - a Rp100.000 pulsa credit for their handphone number!

KGRE’s new SMS Competition for July/August 2006. Send your name, KGCC no. and the answer to 08123870479. Example: Wina, KGCC #013, answer??

The question - Who is KGRE’s newest staff member? She began working for KGRE on July 17th!
