KGRE Welcomes Maggie Brady
Hello Club members. I’d like to introduce myself. My name’s
Maggie. I’m Australian and have spent the last 9 years teaching
English in Indonesia. I am really pleased to have joined the team here
at KGRE. I’ll be working with the KGRE Connection clubs until
Christmas as Cheryl has gone back to Australia to teach Indonesian.
I’m looking forward to reading about all your recent club activities
and perhaps meeting some of you over the next few months. You can write
me a letter or email me at kgcc@ialf.edu
KGRE’s Visit to Sumatra - May
Sue went to Sumatra in May to present KGRE Teacher
Workshops to teachers and to meet with students in Sumatra. Sue visited
Matauli near Sibolga, Laguboti near Lake Toba and Medan. Here are some
excerpts from Sue’s travel report for KGRE - check her full report
on the KGRE website NOW!
Medan English Speaking Club
‘This club at Pesantren Raudatul Hasanah often
has ‘English’ days where all the students speak English
and conduct all their activities in English. I saw photographs and posters
of recent English drama events held by the students.’
SMAN1, Matauli Pandan
This used to be both an active club and a KGCC member
but after some difficulties, they closed. They are currently planning
to rejoin the KGCC network. We hope they do!
‘There were lots of questions from both students and teachers
and no-one was worried about making mistakes. It was amazing. Some maths,
physics and science teachers were there too asking for tips on how to
teach their subjects in English.’

Selamat Jalan Cheryl
Cheryl is returning to Australia after 3 years in Indonesia. Before working
with KGRE, Cheryl worked with teachers in a Pondok Pesantren in East Java
for 18 months. Cheryl has a message for you all.
‘It’s been a great experience working at
KGRE. The best part was meeting such enthusiastic teachers, students and
KGCC members.
Special
thanks to the club leaders and members in Bali, East Java and Lombok who
made me so welcome during my visits and gave such positive feedback about
the things I’ve done in my time here. I hope that you continue to
participate actively in KGCC and, of course, continue to have fun with
English.
Also thanks to the great team here at KGRE. I look forward to seeing you
all again during my school holidays next year.’
DEL English Club, Laguboti
‘The club members were very lively and had prepared a program of
events for the KGRE visit. There was a DEL rap, a chant, some songs in
Indonesian and English, plus lots of questions and of course some KGRE
games.’

| ‘Phew, another successful KGRE trip.
I met a lot of lovely teachers and students, radio presenters, club members,
drivers, hotel staff and ordinary people. I hope one day I can return
and meet them again and maybe explore new areas of Sumatra.’
