The ECC meeting is held once a week, every Wednesday.
-
Listening Zone: This activity is held in the language
laboratory. Sometimes we watch an English language film and then members
talk about it. We also listen to up-to-date music in English and listen
to Kang Guru cassettes.
-
Vocabulary: We require all members to recall about
twenty words every meeting. Monday and Wednesday are English days
at our school so we have also studied English idioms and funky language.
-
Literature time: This occasion consists of making
and reading poems and also performing dramas, but we do this only
at special events such as welcoming guests, religious events, and
opening or farewell parties.
-
Speaking zone: We hold this activity because it’s
important for communication. It consists of two parts. Part one is
a speech exercise. Part two is speaking in groups. We divide the members
into five groups so they can speak freely with their group.
-
Play and work: This activity is a favourite for members
so we all do it with high spirits and enjoy it.
May 2007 - Pasarwajo Speed English Club - KGCC
#037
Recently
we received an interesting Club Activity Report from this club written
by the members. They also sent us some letters, one of them mentioning
AusAID programs in their area.
We are in different jobs – policeman, nurse, midwife, teacher
and dental nurse. On February 10th we visited a member’s home.
Her name is Sarnia. She’s a midwife. First we talked about our
hobbies – what we do in our leisure time, on holidays and weekends.
Then we talked about jobs. We used the pictures and text from the KGRE
magazine. Interesting! After that we ate porridge and we were very happy.
I like this program not only because of the knowledge and new situations,
but also because it is a lot of fun. Asnia Edja.
Here’s a letter from Sarnia:
I was born in Pasarwajo in 1972. I have two brothers and one sister.
I’m number four in the family. I work at Puskesmas Pasarwajo as
a midwife. I like my job very much. My hobby is singing.
In 2000 Puskesmas Pasarwajo had a partnership with AusAID Healthy
Mothers Healthy Babies program (HMHB). I attended training such as quality
assurance, communication and surveying remote places. I hope this program
can continue in the future.
June 2007 - Riena’s English Club in Bojonegoro,
East Java - KGCC #072
This club is located in a small village in Bojonegoro. The 46 members
are SMP and SMA students. Club leaders Ririn and Sofya try to help the
members improve their English (speaking, listening, writing and reading)
by using KGRE materials. As you can see from the following extract from
Club Activity Reports, playing games is an important part of their club
program.
On 3 December we played the alphabet game. Each member had a piece
of paper with the alphabet from A to Z on it. Then they wrote a word
for each letter, for example apple, book and so on. The members were
very enthusiastic. The three fastest and best students got a prize from
Kang Guru.
July 2007 - Randu’s Chatting Club in Ungaran,
East Java - KGCC #081
Randu’s Chatting Club, where all the members are student midwives,
joined KGCC in February, 2007. They organize lots of interesting, fun
activities including their recent trip to Borobudur where 6 groups performed
a short, humorous skit. They also use Listening and Reading Class Sets
at routine meetings and recently participated in the POUCH Environment
Activity 3. Something which impresses us at KGCC is the really detailed
CARS they send with lots of information about their recent events. Members
share the responsibility of submitting the CARS, with a different member
writing it each month.
