The Asian Football Confederation’s 2007 AFC Asian Cup will be held for the 14th time between July 7 and 29. For the first time in its 51 year history, the 16 team, 32 match tournament will be co-hosted by four nations : Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Last held in China in 2004 and held every 4 years, this year it has been brought forward so as not to clash with the Bejing Olympics in 2008.

Thailand and Iraq will kick off the tournament in Thailand with the final being held in Jakarta on July 29. The key challengers are expected to be Japan, Australia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Iran. This is an inaugural appearance for Australia’s Socceroos and Australia is the first non-host nation to qualify.
