Report from KGRE visit to The Excellent Club in Jombang - Kevin
A few weeks back I visited The Excellent Club in Jombang, East Java. I had been scheduled to go there a few weeks earlier but unfortunately was unable to make it. However the visit finally took place on April 15th. It was a fantastic experience and just shows how active and dedicated some of our KGCC members and groups really are.
I was warmly welcomed by Pak Hakim and by all the members of the Club.
The Club members presented many entertaining activities, not just me but
for the whole community. There were many, many onlookers. There were cultural
performances, music presentations and comedy sketches which were very funny
indeed. Every performance had been rehearsed throughly and it was obvious
that all participants were very happy and enthusiastic about the job they
had to do. The last comedy sketch was particularly good and kept all of
the audience in laugther for quite a long time. I think some of the actors
in that performance will be famous someday on Indonesian television.

First of all, Pak Abdul Hakim, leader of The Excellent Club, and his
friends picked me up at my hotel in Jombang and took me about 45 minutes
south of the city to their club. s location. The location was in a village.
When I arrived the whole area was bright and full of activity with decorations,
music and people. I was the guest of honor so there was a special seat for
me at the front of the stage. It was very exciting.
The Club organised a special dinner so that I could meet the members of the Club. It was great to meet them all and to find out a little about their lives and their involvement with their Club. I met many other people from the audience. One thing that I found very interesting was the number of young children watching the performances. They were very keen and they really enjoyed the antics of the performers. I then realised what a wonderful way to introduce English to the younger members of the community. They were seeing English being used in a fun way by other young people and that it was not always serious and difficult - English could be fun as well. Thanks to The Excellent Club and I really look forward to seeing you all again later this year at our KGCC Get Together for East Java. I hope we get to see some of those performances again too. |
There was a KGRE Survey Form in every April 2002 magazine. Club members are reminded to fill in the Survey postcard and send it back to KGRE - tanpa perangko! We need your help. Thank you very much.
