Kangguru Travel Report

In late March, Ogi from KGRE, had the opportunity to visit NTT. She went there to help conduct a KGRE workshop for English teachers from high schools in Kupang. Dian Wijayanti and Johan, teachers from IALF Bali, conducted the workshop. English teacher workshop in KupangThe workshop focussed on practical suggestions for using KGRE material for classroom activities. The response to this workshop was excellent with participants being actively involved in many interesting activities. There were 190 participants - high school teachers, and university students who were in their final year of teacher training. This workshop was made possible by the wonderful cooperation given by the Kang Guru Fans’ English Club, a very active Kang Guru Connection Club in Kupang. They were assisted by the Student Senate of the Education Faculty of Artha Wacana Christian University and the local office of the Ministry of Education in Kupang. This Kang Guru Connection Club in Kupangwas a great example of how KG Connection Clubs can actually support KGRE and help English students and English teachers in their local area. As a result of this type of networking activity some English teachers are now asking the Fans Club to conduct more activities with them. It was also an opportunity for Ogi to visit the Fans English Club and RRI Kupang. As for listening to KGRE program on radio, we hope that RRI Kupang will soon re-broadcast KGRE. Pak Richard - the broadcasting manager of RRI Kupang supports KGRE and he knows the English club well. He has promised that he will soon inform KGRE and the Fans English Club in Kupang about the new broadcast schedule. Many thanks to Theresia too - the hard working and dedicated leader of the club.

Note from KGRE: In recent months it has been great to see other KGCCs involved in Teacher Workshops around the country including - GILAR #5 and IDEA # 73 in Purwokerto for example. For more information on these events please look at the new webpage from KGRE - kgretravel.htm

Language Tips from Lizzy
E-Mail Connections

A great piece of information from Liz in her Language Lab - a tip that is easy for all of you to follow - television.

“A good way to practise your English is to watch the news on RCTI or Metro TV every morning - it is in English and is very good indeed. There is often a native speaker interviewed as well. So try it”.

For those Clubs with e-mail
connections, please check your emails regularly for details of KGRE Special News and Events.

The KGRE Forum Page has been very busy lately. Postings for penpals have been high lately especially from Aussie students. Hopefully Club members can access the website to meet new friends and have some fun.

A Puzzle?
So many people tell KGRE that they really want their English to improve, especially pronunciation and grammar. They also say that they find it difficult when listening to native speakers. Then they tell us that they do not listen to KGRE regularly. This is very odd indeed - a real puzzle!
