English Practicing Club
Lumajang - East Java
January 2003

Thanks for sending us the POUCH and the Kang Guru Reading Class Set package. To tell you the truth, we really enjoy reading the magazine. They are very exciting for us as English learners to improve our ability in understanding the readings as well as developing listening skill. The following is the highlight of our activity last year.
Last September we invited a native speaker to stay in our town for a couple of days. It is one of the EPC programs to invite a volunteer to stay with us with free accommodation at the hotel or with a family if she/he would like to know the real family life in our town. We serve our traditional food and escort them to any tourist resort in our town. We really enjoy having a nice friendly friend from overseas. English Practicing Club
In connecting with this program we would be glad if KGRE can help us to organise a volunteer to be here in our town. Everything is aimed to give chance to our club members to improve their English by having conversation and learning English directly from foreigners.
Please note: What a fantastic club activity!! KGRE is thinking about this idea. Are you thinking too?

Bromo Study ProgramWe also held a Bromo Study Tour Program in October. We really enjoy having a break and a chance to have a chat with foreigners. Once again thanks for being our helping in learning English and our best neighbour. Just like other people said, KGRE also gives us good understanding between Australia and Indonesia. I agree that this understanding is very important - like you always say ‘Good Neighbours Make Good Friends’. Keep on strengthening our friendship through this lovely way. Because only they who love will never think about what they get, but what they can give.

Rapals Club
Bandung - West Java
February 2003

A big hello from members of RAPALS Club in Bandung!! We would like to say a very big thank you for sending us the POUCH and the Reading Class Sets. We really enjoy using them. As a teacher at the Club I’d like to inform you that the English ability of most members is at elementary level so meetings are held more than twice a week. We usually discuss the common problems we have such as grammar. Besides being member of the English club, most students also attend other school activities such as Scouts, Youth Red Cross, electronics, traditional dance, reading-writing Qur’an and sport.

Some of the activities during meetings are:

  • Listening to ‘KGRE In The Classroom’ package. The aim of this activity is to promote the KGRE radio show as most of the members do not listen to KGRE.
  • Learning from pictures. We give comments or opinions about pictures. Also drawing pictures by listening to the instructions given. For example, draw a picture of a table then draw a vase on it, etc. The aim is to encourage members to practise speaking and listening skills.
  • Translating an Indonesian song into English version. This is afun activity since most of the members like music. We try to find a song they really like. We also tell them a little bit about the artist. At the end the students have to retell about the artist.

For our next meeting we have planned to invite speakers from Radio Maestro which also holds an English Interactive Show every Sunday evening from 8 - 9 pm called ‘Talk To Us’.
