Clubs of the Month

PEMCC
Makassar - South Sulawesi
January 2004

You may know that the Pioneer English Meeting Conversation Club (PEMCC) in Makassar is one of the most active clubs in the KGCC network. They work hard to keep their club going with interesting activities that are beneficial to all members. Another interesting thing with this club is that their Club’s Headquarter is in Fort Rotterdam, a famous tourist place in Makassar. Here are some of their great activities.

Sunday English Meeting. Sunday meeting is our regular activity. This is the core of our activity because it is the place for us to meet and make tight out friendship. This meeting runs from 10am until 1pm. There are 10 parts in this activity. They are Welcome Speech, New Comers Introduction, KG Audio Show, Discussion, Vocabulary Building or sometimes changes with Grammar Correction Announcement, and Closing Speeches. On Vocabulary Building the appointed committee gives some words or technical terms with meanings that correlate with the topic of discussion on that day. It is good to introduce to the members some new words which are unknown or considered ‘strange’ to the ear of PEMCC members.

KG Audio Show
We keep using the August KGRE Reading Class Set and the audio copy of KGRE August magazine as a part of our listening activity each Sunday meeting. You know most of members are really interested in these dynamic listening practice materials. Those are very helpful in broadening our knowledge for some different types of listening practice. To tell you the truth we indeed enjoy using the materials.

Dear Kang Guru.
I am very happy to write a letter to you. By correspondence we can keep in touch with each other. I can communicate with you via email as well and get many advantages. With KGRE’s help I can build a new English language club ‘off the beaten track’. My members are very happy in studying English by your material. Listening to the cassette is very important as students face their National Final Test. In the future SMU students will have their English examination in listening skills. Therefore we always use ‘Kang Guru In The Classroom’ to listen to native speaker voices.

The POUCH bulletin is valuable for our English language club. We read the other club activities and sometimes we imitate their ways. Reading about ‘Club of the Month’ activities can arouse inspirations to create an attractive activity. So members of the club never feel bored. For making my members interested and to stay longer in the club I usually hold English competitions. The participants who have good English capability will get Kang Guru stickers.

Thank you very much Kang Guru. I realize without you I cannot speak English, write English letters, or make a new English Club. Because of your help I can do something related to English and do it smoothly. To conclude my letter I want to express your gold proverb ‘Good Neihbours Make Good Friends’ and ‘Good Friends Make Good Partner’.
