Madia English Club
Madura, East Java
January 2005
This MaDia Club in Madura joined the KGCC in April 2004.
Upon joining the KGCC membership they wrote to KGRE:
“Actually we don’t know what kinds of reply
to give you. You are very kind, caring and motivating for our educational
development particularly dealing with improving our English. Frankly speaking,
your explanation and special attention to our club makes us hear an Indonesian
idiom where most Indonesians always say - “Dikasih pipi minta ke
hati”.
Regular activities amongst the club members are internal
reinforcement on language building. Thus conversation and writing skills
are intended to be our basic capacity to which a combination of language
terms namely ‘Language Performance and Language Competence’
could be implemented integrally. The club also carried out an English
camp program which focused on language applications in daily interactions.
Here is a part of their report, “The journey was solely intended
for increasing members’ enthusiasm for English conversation as well
as to celebrate the National Independence Day. Before departing we made
an agreement that ‘no serving, no talking and no joining us unless
in English’. Therefore we will ignore those who spoke to us other
than in English. This made us burst into laughter along the journey because
there were always funny attitudes from members in expressing their English”.

Stella Maris English
Club
Waikabubak - Sumba Barat, NTT
February 2005
Stella Maris English Club joined the Kang Guru Connection
Club network in October 2004. Thanks to Pak Paulus Nau who had the idea
of setting up an English club so that his students can have extra time
studying English outside school hours. KGRE hopes that in the future this
club will also do outdoor activities and have fun outside the classroom.

-
We do regular club meetings twice every week. The
schedule is every Tuesday and Thursday. We usually do these activities
in the afternoon from 4.30pm until 5.30pm. The reporting so far is
done by the Club Leader because of several reasons.
-
The member of this club are junior high school students
from SMP Katolik Waikabubak where Pak Paulus teaches. They are students
who want to study and have fun with English.
-
We still do activities in the school classroom. We
usually do listening, writing, speaking and reading activities. The
club members never do events out of school like going on excursions,
sport competitions or traditional dance and music performances.
Letters from the club members:
“Members of the club would like to wish
KGRE and staff A Very Happy New Year. May our cooperation be full
of success and happiness in 2005. A big thank you for your support
to our club in the past year. We hope that KGRE can come and visit
us in 2005.”
“Hello Kang Guru. How are you? I hope you
are fine. I know you from KGRE magazine. I feel amazed after reading
your magazine. Thank you very much to my teacher which already teaches
us to write letters. I am very happy. Kang Guru in the best”.
