Kakadujim Jim FallsKGRE would like you to look at the photographs on the Kakadu Page of the April 2005 magazine. There are 5 photographs. The KGCC Competition for this POUCH is to describe, in writing or on tape, these five photographs. This activity will involve a lot of vocabulary study and practising descriptions. Be sure to help each Nourlangi Rockother and involve ALL club members. The members of the club could be divided into 5 groups each with a different photograph. The members of each group could work together on their project. When they finish talking about the photographs, checking necessary vocabulary and general presentation of the descriptions they could present their descriptions to the other groups. The other groups could give advice and help to make all 5 descriptions even better. When eveyone is happy with the descriptions (250 words maximum or 3 minutes of audio) then send them to KGRE. Send them to KGRE before the end of June, 2005. Prizes will be announced later but they will be good ones, believe us!

Phonemic Symbols - do you know about these?

Have you ever seen something like this in an english book or dictionary? /bæg/ or /la:f/ Those are actually the words bag and laugh but written in phonemic symbols. These symbols are used to help learners to pronounce English words. You can use the symbols to practise even if you have never heard the words before. Do some research and see if club members know anything about these phonemic symbols. Do you have dictionaries where these symbols are given immediately after the word?
