KGCC Get Together and
Teacher Workshop in Sumenep
The KGRE Teacher Workshop in Madura held on March 31st,
2005 was organised by the KGRE Connection Club # 019 - the Pioneer English
Club based at Pon Pes Al-Amien in Prenduan. Around 120 teachers attended.
Many of them were actually ‘teachers in training’. Many thanks
to Pak Suryadi and his organising team for their help and hard work. Margaret
and John, teacher trainers (ISELP and AVI) from nearby Pon Pes Annuqayah,
Guluk Guluk were there to assist Kevin and contributed a lot to the success
of the day.
Later that evening Kevin attended a student meeting in Sumenep organised
by ECC Sumenep. It is not a KGRE club yet but might be soon. Pak Suryadi
was once again ‘in charge’ of the event and did a great job.
There were 250 students ranging from SD level right through to university
level including many KGCC
members from other clubs in the area. John and Margaret also attended.
There were performances, lots of questions and special Madurese food.
The dialogue was a little difficult because audience members were quite
excited and noisy. However, the many questions asked were terrific.
On Friday morning Kevin returned to Pon Pes Al-Amien in Prenduan for
the KGRE Connection Club Get Together. Over 400 club members were there
and not just from the KGCC network either. Other local clubs were invited
to participate and that’s a great way to promote KGRE. The KGCC
was represented by KGCC # 027 MaDia English Club based in Pamekasan and
KGCC # 019 Pioneer English Club. The members were great fun and besides
KGRE Quiz activities (see winners below) we also had performances from
club members to watch. It was a very entertaining morning and once again
thanks must go to Pak Suryadi and his team of organisers. The club members
were wonderful -so friendly and fun loving.

The International Education
Expo
at Tiara Convention Centre - Medan
PT. Star Indonesia International invited us to be the
part of the team organising some English activities during the expo.

These activities were to attract as many people as possible, including
students. There were ten foreign countries which took part in the expo
such as, Australia, Malaysia, the UK, Singapore, America etc. We were
excited because we were the only English speaking club involved in the
prestigious event. In short, we did three interesting activities during
the expo started from April 7th - 10th. They were English Fun Written
Test, Talents & Personalities, and a Fun Game.
English Fun Written Test - 50 questions
The test was all about general knowledge in English. Of course those
who lack an interest in reading found the test difficult. The participants
who followed this test were professionals and high school students. Each
participant received a certificate from the organising committee.
Talents & Personalities
There were two different criteria of questions ie. for learners and for
teachers/professionals. Participants had to understand each question before
they gave the score. The scores ranged from 0 for disagree, 1 if they were
confused and 2 if they totally agreed with the statement read. Then we totalled
the score.
Fun Game
This game has to do with explaining and guessing in English.
We put them in pairs. We got participants to introduce themselves to their
partner sitting right next to them. Then we gave each of them a typical
card which we designed with Kang Guru logo behind it. This was one of
our ways to promote KGRE. For more information contact us!
