Ihsan Meeting Club
Palu - Central Sulawesi
July 2003
Club Meeting every Saturday afternoon
We had discussions or talked about recent international
news stories like Iraq, SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), Movement
Aceh Independent (GAM) and other problems in Indonesia. We also discussed
about education, the environment, the government, etc. in our area. One
of our problems is how to make our members speak English fluently. Most
of us are still using bahasa Indonesia when we have discussions and we
always look for methods to improve this. We hope KGRE can give attention
to us like giving suggestions or facility like cassettes or guidebooks
or anything.
Note from KGRE: Please check the information in the
last POUCH about holding effective discussions.
We have been teaching English for Upbringing
every Monday evening but we find it difficult because we haven’t
found a good method for that. We make three classes ie. for children,
adolescents and adults. We always prepare games for them.
Cooperation with other English Clubs in Palu
About two weeks ago we visited ‘Best English and Music Club’
and talked about English Club meetings in Palu. We decided to invite all
English Clubs in Palu to make one activity. We also want to introduce
and promote English to primary, junior and high school students as there
are only a few students who really want to learn English. They feel English
is very difficult and don’t want to try. So we want to be united
and teach them English. That is our long program for the future. |

The
Shark English Conversation Club,
Surabaya - East Java
August 2003
This English club has only 15 members. Most of
them are SD students but there is one SLTP student and three SMU students.
They are all very keen in studying English and this makes their English
club a very active one. They have club meetings every Sunday and they
always listen to KGRE on RRI Surabaya and watch the TVRI English news
program every morning. They have been active in sending entries for POUCH
Language Activities and have won great prizes from KGRE.

Dear Kang Guru,
We say thank you very much for sending us the Kang Guru magazine, the
POUCH, English books plus a few music tapes and new KGRE T-shirt. Once
again thank you very much. We love ... love ... Kang Guru. Our club felt
very happy and glad after we watched Kevin appear on TVRI News on June
4th, 2003 at 07.15 until 07.30. We always watch TVRI news every morning
because TVRI has this good English programme. Mr Kevin was asked many
questions by the broadcaster. One question was about the name of Kang
Guru. Then Kevin explained about the Kang Guru program, aims, club members,
Australia’s response etc. Some of club activities:
