On June 26th, 2004 in Tuban, East Java, an English Day for SMP students
was hosted by SMP Negeri 3 Tuban. The day was supported by Tuban Regency
and the local office of the National Education Department. Kristi Graham
from KGRE/IALF Bali went along and participated in the exciting events.
Pak Muin, a teacher from SMP 5 Tuban, KGRE presenter at Radio Swara Pantura
and also a part of the Organising Committee, welcomed over a one hundred
and fifty students from schools from around the regency who attended the
English Day. Here are Kristi’s comments about that day.

“The day opened with an introduction from Mr Karani, who is the
head of Tuban National Educational Department. Then we went into a whole
series of activities and games that were just very, very enjoyable. The
first part that I did was that I talked a bit with the students about
fun ways of learning English, about using films, using songs, using games
to enjoy learing. Then a little later we went on and did a general knowledge
quiz with teams and prizes for the winning team. Then after that we did
the Kang Guru Music Quiz from the August Reading Class Set which was,
I think, the most popular of all. Again there were some individual prizes
as we went through and then a prize - Kang Guru T-shirts for everyone
on the winning team ...”.
KGRE Travels
Kevin visited Kupang in early September for several reasons. One of
the reasons was to visit Kang Guru Fans’ English Club, KGCC # 012
in Kupang. Kevin spent several hours with the members of this very active
club. Theresia Tamelan is a very energetic and dedicated club leader and
we know that the members of the club really appreciate all of her efforts.
Kevin really enjoyed his visit to see them. Kevin also travelled to the
island of Semau with NTA - see page 6 of the August magazine. More on
that quick visit to Semau later in the year.
Would you like KGRE to visit your Club?
During 2005 KGRE will be trying to visit as many Clubs as possible.
If you would like to have a visit by KGRE in 2005 then here is what you
should do:
- Plan a special day for your club including activities such as games,
language activities, questions forums, etc. Involve all members of the
clubs in the planning of this special day. Make this a club language
activity.
- Send your draft plans and schedule for the day’s activities
to KGRE. Submit approximate costs for the day - KGRE may be able to
assist with this matter.
- Suggest several times of the year (2005) that would be most suitable
for your special day to be held - e.g. late February, early June, etc.
It would also be terrific if the Club’s Special Day could be in
conjunction with a special event in your school, campus, town or district.
Send this information to KGRE before December 1st, 2004 if possible.
Then KGRE can start planning for 2005. KGRE is not able to guarantee that
a visit will take place but the sooner clubs submit their ideas then the
more chance there is that a visit will take place. |
