Radio Presenters Network

Presenters Newsletter No. 3 May 2006

It is fantastic that there has been so much interest in KGRE's Interactive Presenters' Network. We already have 13 members and we are sure the number will continue to grow. Presenters are keen to join, and that is great, however KGRE would like to make something clear. If there is more than one Interactive English Language Presenter at your radio station, please appoint one of those presenters as the leader/coordinator of the group. KGRE is keen to support all of you but we will only be sending materials and information to the group as a whole via the leader/coordinator. The leader/coordinator must make sure that all presenters have access to the materials and information that KGRE sends. If you have any questions about this then call Ogi on 08123870479. cheesy cd/cassette img The Best of Series 50 – a CD of what we think are some of the BEST segments broadcast during Series 50. If you would like the tapescripts then just contact us and ask for them. The segments can be used easily as discussion topics or even special reports from KGRE for those listeners who maybe do not listen to KGRE regular programs. Please let us know if the segments are useful or not. They have been divided into sections such as Language, Australia, Interviews and Indonesia. The Best of (other) Series will be available soon including a Best of Celebrity Interviews.

Bowo Pranoto
Radio Suara Habibulloh, Banyuwangi

Since the meeting in Bali, I have been trying to provide different segments in the program each week. Some types of new segments I have been using have included an SMS competition and quiz. Both of them make my program more interesting and informative. In the sms competition I give listeners challenging and interesting topics about local current events. At least three listeners joined in my SMS competition. A serious problem in this segments was a technical problem. The number of my station's mobile phone was changed three times because of the different sponsorship, so it makes listeners reluctant join in the SMS competition. But I always keep trying to encourage them.

I have so far used a number of different quiz formats as suggested by KGRE “Who am I?” “What am I?” and “Mystery Sound”. This fabulous segment us running so well that the manager of the radio asked me to change the duration of the program, broadcast fifteen minutes earlier than usual. Many active listeners enjoy the program very much. Factors causing this problem have included the new equipment of the radio, the material and the package of KGRE prizes as well.

KGRE Presenter Bowo Pranoto The two keen English language clubs, UNTAG English community and Minak Jinggo English club support my interactive program by sending the member of the group to be guest announcers on every show. I plan to have a brief discussion on Different Pond Different Fish to both of the guest announcers and listeners.

My only hope is to develop my interactive show more innovative by getting closer to all members of a Presenter's Network and never stop making myself better presenting on KGRE.

KGRE Note: Thanks Bowo and well done. You are a great worker and your listeners should be very pleased with your efforts.

Thank you for putting me as one of your Interactive Program Presenter Network members. Hopefully it will give a positive entry point to every network member in improving their English interactive programs. Some significant changes I should say have always kept me alive and with new ideas taken from Kang GURU. CD sample and merchandises you've sent me have helped me out to make this English interactive program prestigious and different. I have more callers and more people now joining the program — it is probably because I put more segments — Slice of Life from Aussie, Our Vocabulary. I get some helps from students of SMU Negeri 1 Palu, SMU Negeri 3 3 Palu, Tadulako and Muhammadiyah university as my source persons. I set them into rotation to do live on air with me. It's really fun to talk with them. I choose an easy topic that happens around their life or some national or even international issues and of course it's reached by them, because I don't want them to get stress with the topic. I discuss together with them before deciding which topic will be pleasant to be on air.

This English interactive program has been moved on Sunday evening starting from 20.15-22.00 PM since January 2006 as we have new regular program based on meeting agreement on December 2005. At least I have more space to get creative and make this program more interesting for listeners. I do apply and duplicate some ideas from news letter you sent me and it works. A special quiz is given 15 minutes before signing out from the program — so far I got 3 winners and the question is taken from Indonesian artist you have been interviewed — Padi, Gigi, Audy. Just wonder if I could get any cd copy of other artists or anyone who have been taped by Kang GURU. Listeners have pond of fun to do the quiz. SMS is still one part of the program that I like, I have a special moment to read it — it calls SMS reading. Some English suggestions are given for their English — when is appropriate to say Good Night etc.

I guess I'm gonna be off for a while, a short story from me in Palu and I'm happy to insert some of SMS sending at random.

Bravo,
Jojo Jumba
