Hi to all of you, and all of us here at KGRE hope everything is going well with
you and with your programs. We now have 17 members in the Presenters' Network.
Details on the latest members to join can be read in this newsletter. This is

for you. KGRE has been in direct contact with several members lately including
Jack and Nada in Mataram, Ririn in Kediri, Noor and newly arrived Danielle at
SURGA FM in Jombang, Sophie in Jayapura and Bowo in Banyuwangi. More on them
later in the newsletter. Anyway, once again, thanks for being in the KGRE
English Language Interactive Presenters' Network and we hope to catch up with
you all soon — somewhere, sometime!
And apologies for the late arrival of this 4th Newsletter but you know why?
Yep, computer problems at KGRE. Sorry about that.
Latest News from KGRE
‘Quick Fix‘ with Cheryl — a new
radio segment from KGRE and Cheryl. Cheryl, our newest staff member at KGRE,
has been writing special ‘Quick Fix’ segments for the
radio program. The first 6 of these are in programs
5301 – 5306.
Here's Cheryl's introduction about the segments –
English language teachers and learners would agree that learning English is a
challenge. At KGRE we're always trying to think of ways to make it easier for
you. Whiz is on holidays so for the next six weeks we'll be telling you about
some common mistakes that you should be aware of. If you avoid making these
mistakes your English will improve, I promise you. The first common mistake
involves the word ‘ever’. We often use this word in questions when
we want to know about the things people have done. For example, ‘Have
you ever travelled in a bajaj in Jakarta?’
The first program, Show No. 5301, looked at the use of ‘ever’.
Other common mistakes or areas of difficulty include the use of ‘of
course’, the use of ‘why’, ‘follow’,
‘tourist object’, ‘obyek wisata’
and ‘thanks for your coming’.
These common problem areas could prove to be good topics for discussion or even
as your Language Hint of the Week. We have included a CD with the six
segments on CD JUST for you so please try to use them in your program somehow.
Tip of the Month — from Dewi Lestari, singer and artist.
Dewi Lestari is very good with English. Just listen to her latest CD ‘Out
of Shell’ – a brilliant CD with wonderful English.
Yes. OK, uh so the story is er when I was a kid, when I was like 8 years
old or something, I lived two years in Medan, and and my dad, we lived in a
suburb, we didn't have entertainment so he bought us a VCR player and that's
the only you know that's the only tools that we have to entertain ourselves. So
we recorded everything that we have on on tv on that VCR and we just replay it
over and over again, imitate the sound and my favourite teacher he he teacher,
quote - unquote, is the ‘Muppet Show’. You know I love the show and
I imitate everything. I didn't understand what what it means mostly but you
know I just I just erm listen and try to repeat and imitate.
When Dewi was very young, she loved English and she loved ‘The Muppet
Show’ on television. She and her family watched that program often
and they loved it. Have you ever seen it – Kermit, Miss Piggy, Animal and
so on – all wonderful characters on that fabulous puppet show.
Check out the latest KGRE merchandise including bright yellow jas hujan,
black KGRE caps, new compilation cassettes and CDs plus the old favorites.
Here's what we want you to do. Choose four (4) items from the KGRE website SHOP
Page or from the attached hard copy version of the page. Tell us how
you are going to give those four items away on your program AND we will send
them to you. Now that is a great offer, isn't it? Offer closes late October.
Last Presenter Competition
KGRE has been quite surprised as no presenters entered the TASK for YOU in the
Third Newsletter! Have you been too busy or did you forget?
Emails from Members:
Hi again, It's the interactive program like the days before. I'd like to give
the quiz as KGRE has ordered, but the prizes are missing (kept by RRI staff?).
To avoid making the listeners bored, I read some articles from KGRE site and
magazine, and of course some net-quizzes KGRE has sent to my email. So far,
there are always callers in my program. Yes, I need to improve more. Hopefully
RRI will pay more attention to the program, so I won't work alone.
See ya!

Dear Mbak Ogi,
First of all, I would like to thank to KGRE for always supporting us. We are
planning to do a lot more things for Sunday English Show on Romansa FM
Ponorogo. We use the materials that you sent to us as the source of ideas of
our show and we will establish an English Club. We need your support. We will
send you reports as soon as possible. Best Regards, Donna-Romansa FM.
First, I want to inform you guiz that since May 15th 2006, KGRE and my
interactive English show are back to Contrend FM which have broadcasted both
programs for the first time in Selayar.
KGRE is OK so far, but classical problem is still faced on interactive show. It
is so hard to get the listeners call in, whereas I always present a simple
topic that easy to responded. I don't know why. I also tell them that it is not
a test, so they don't have to worry about the grammar. Maybe they just avoid to
make mistake in English that it will be heard by other listeners. But when the
quiz time, they will try to call in immediately. So last time, I try to use the
quiz to have chitchat with the listeners before they answer the question. And
it's worked, coz they keep on the line with their English and giving their
comments related to the topic at the moment as much as they can. I hope this
way worked from now on.
That's all for a while folks and thanks to
Kang GURU
for the presenters network package. It's really useful.
Warm regards from Selayar to all the network members.

Welcome New Members
Alan from Persada FM Blitar
My name is Agus M. Setiawan, S.S. but my nickname on air is Mr Alan. I was
recruited to host English Interactive program after Persada FM made cooperation
with
Kang GURU
Radio English (KGRE) to broadcast KGRE program. I worked with three hosts
before i.e. Mrs Lisa Dorothy (from South Africa), Mr Huda and Ms Icha. But
since last year I became the only host for the program because Ms Lisa moved to
Surabaya, Ms Icha moved to another division of the radio organization and Mr
Huda studied overseas.
In April 2005 we offered the English teachers of junior and senior high schools
in Blitar with ‘Students In Studio’ (SIS) program. With this
program teachers were asked to send their students who have good English to be
‘guest’ or ‘co-host’ the interactive program. It got
very good response and it seems there is competition among schools to prove
that they are the best in training students in getting better English
proficiency.
Kang GURU
Radio English with its information about Australia, Aussie language and
culture, scholarship and experiences of people who join the scholarship, also
great success stories of public figures such as Indonesian artists, TV
presenters, etc. give listeners of SIS program stimulation to be the same at
least through their capabilities in speaking English.
The program of ‘Students In Studio’ is done aiming at not only
giving more motivation to students of senior and junior high school but also
giving support to teachers of English in Blitar by offering them a media to
actualise and improve their students' knowledge and their English proficiency.
We hope that KGRE will give us support to run it successfully.
KGRE Note: Well done. It sounds as though you have some wonderful ‘on
air’ activities at Persada FM. I am sure your listeners are very pleased
with the show. As for Indonesian artists, we have included a ‘Best of
Celebrity Interviews’ CD for you to use too – I know students will
love that.
Rissti from Pastway FM in Tasikmalaya
Hi, my name is Rissti Rusdhiana, I was born in Tasikmalaya, January 25th, 1984.
Basically I'm a quiet person, I never thought I'd be an announcer. One of
announcers in one of local radio stations came to me and offered to be an
announcer on English show, its called "Weekend With English" show, I
wasn't sure at first, but then again I tell myself, why don't I give it a try
to myself?? So I took that chance, and I was a co-presenter at first and I was
nervous really nervous, and I did so many mistakes but finally I get along with
it.
After 3 weeks, I was left alone, because the announcer that used to handle the
show needed to go out of town, so she handed it over the show to me until now.
I'm glad that I have callers more and more every week. It was great that I'm an
announcer for
Kang GURU
show, esp. Australia is one of my favourite country and I'm interesting in
speaking English. We broadcasting English show once in a week for 2 hours on
Saturday at 7-9 pm, in first 1 hour show, we have KGRE, and the rest quiz, some
useful information (we always choose one topic to talk about every week),latest
information, request song by phone to 0265 322022 or they also can send text
message to 081 121 1069. This show is also broadcasted through the Internet,
hoping that worldwide listeners could take a participation by calling and share
their experiences.
Now I think I'm so lucky being an announcer of an English program, that really
help my English and also I can help others at the same time, its really fun,
thanks to KGRE and IALF, I hope someday Tasikmalaya would be one of the city
who has a chance to be visited by KGRE's crew.

KGRE Note: That sounds wonderful Rissti and I am especially interested in the
idea of broadcasting through the Internet. How does that work? Can you tell me
more about that? Do any other presenters do this? I wonder if KGRE could be
broadcast on the Internet too?
Gama from Padang FM
My name is Maydeta Gama Putra. I was born in Yogyakarta on May 24th, 1983. I
grew up in Sawahlunto, one of town in West Sumatra. Then I continued my
education in Padang, in English Department of Andalas University. Besides
studying in University, I also teach English in several offices and homes. I
was the broadcaster in campus radio before. Writing is one of my hobbies. I
write fiction and non-fiction for several local daily.
For the first time, I know
Kang GURU
Radio English from local radio in Padang. Then last year, my lecturer held an
audition for being KGRE Interactive Show's announcer.
I and some friends were chosen, anyway I am more frequent on air to host this
program that started in the beginning of this year.
I really love to deliver this program in 102,6 Padang FM. We have gotten very
good intention since the beginning of this program. In the program held every
Sunday morning, we invite many people from the different background, such as
foreigners, lecturers, students, and also professional worker. Our listeners,
we call them
Kang GURU
Listeners are from the different ages, from Junior High School student to
adults. More intentions from our audiences then supported the Radio Manager to
add 30 minutes for interactive show. Now, we broadcast from 9 to 10.30 AM in
Sunday morning.
Besides interviewing the guest, now we make the live music during our program.
Playing western music is not allowed in Padang FM because it is an Islamic
radio. But we can play live English song. For giving sympathy to earthquake in
Yogya, some High School students participates by composing a song for Yogya and
they are allowed to perform. We also hope that we could get one space in local
daily to be our spot in reporting the summary of KGRE interactive show. We hope
to attract more people in our show so that more people can know, listen and get
fun from this program.
Being KGRE announcer is very exciting and challenging for me. I do learn how to
please the audience. Sure at the beginning I made some mistakes. Luckily I have
lecturers, friends, and audiences that can directly call or send SMS to my
mobile in giving comment upon my performance. Now it's not difficult to find
guests and to invite callers since many people have known this is as the only
English Program in their local the radio.
No doubt that KGRE program is like a fresh air in Padang people, here they can
practice English and join with us in showing they creativity. Last but not
least, I want to send regards for all our audiences to every English lover that
every week listen the same program with the same spirit that improving our
English means improving our future to be. Amen!

KGRE Note: You sound as though you are a very active and enthusiastic presenter
and this is fantastic. It took quite a while to get interactive broadcast on
Padang FM but we are certainly glad that it is now happening. Sunday morning is
a great time too for the show and I will be every interested to hear more of
your stories as the months go by.
