English Language Interactive
Radio Presenters Network
|
On August 4th 2005, seven eager and hard-working radio presenters met at IALF
Bali for a two day meeting. All seven of these people present English language
interactive radio programs in their respective cities. They were invited to
meet with each other, and with KGRE. The main reason for the meeting was to
begin the process of forming a KGRE English Language Interactive Radio
Presenter's Network.
|
In the past KGRE has assisted and encouraged English language interactive radio
programs in many parts of Indonesia. KGRE wants to encourage more radio
stations to further develop, or even introduce, their own interactive programs.
KGRE plans to produce a set of ‘Hints and Suggestions’ to help
radio stations and their presenters to do this by December 2006.

On Day One of the presenter's workshop each participant described their own
radio programs. They talked about some of the difficulties and successes that
had experienced since beginning their programs. It was interesting to note the
variety of differences between programs. The seven enthusiastic participants
considered many interesting questions about their programs and about KGRE.
What are the most common problems in presenting interactive programs?
How were or how can these problems be overcome?
How can members of a presenter's network help each other?
What makes an interesting interactive radio program?
How can we make English language interactive programs interesting and
appropriate for language learners in listening audience?
|
KGRE presented some ideas for ‘on air’ activities which have
already been used by some of the participants. It is planned that KGRE will
produce a bank of such activities designed to help presenters make their
programs more interesting and informative.
On Day Two the group listened to some sample programs from participants. This
was followed by a brief discussion of each other's programs. The group talked
about how they plan their programs. This session was led by Jack and Nada from
RRI Mataram.
|
|
Final sessions were based on the how KGRE and the participants can best develop
a Presenter's Network during 2005 - 2006. How can KGRE help you AND how can you
help each other and how should KGRE go about ‘selling’ English
interactive programs to other radio stations? The involvement of participants
is going to be important in this part of the network's goals.
|
If you know of an Interactive radio presenter (English language) then why not
tell them to contact KGRE and maybe they too can join this new and exciting
network of people helping people in Indonesia.
