Kang GURU Travels to Jakarta - February 2010

In January 2010 the Cultural Affairs section of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta invited Kang Guru to participate in a student activity at Taman Mini. The activity was for students from a school in Tangerang to visit the ‘Strike A Chord’ exhibition at Taman Mini. Kevin went to meet students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda in Tangerang, a AIBEP school in Indonesia.

Fifty students from Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda in Tangerang visited the Strike A Chord Exhibition at Tanan Mini on Feb. 22. Staff at Taman Mini presented a few spectacular science experiments to the students while Kevin from KGI gave them a special English/Indonesian Quiz. The students were so clever with excellent answers given to all questions.

Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda is just one of 2000 schools being built by the Australia Indonesian Basic Education Program (AIBEP). KGI worked together with the Cultural Affairs section at the Australian Embassy and AusAID to present the activities at Taman Mini.

Strike A Chord - The Science of Music has attracted tens of thousands of visitors each month since December 2009 at Indonesia’s National Science and Technology Centre (PP-IPTEK), Taman Mini. It has been sponsored by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in cooperation with the Australia International Cultural Council.

The activity was great fun and the students completed their English/Indonesia Quiz very well. Many thanks to Sanchi Davis, Cultural Attache at the Embassy and her wonderful staff including Pk Sulis – thanks for the great pics Sulis. Also thanks to Jo Dowling from AusAID Jakarta for her support. In fact Kevin and Jo had a chat about the days when Jo worked with ISELP in East Java and how KGI and ISELP worked together in those days back a few year ago.

After the event Kevin returned to Jakarta and had dinner with the Australian Ambassador at his residence in Jakarta. Mr. Farmer has a been an avid supporter of KGI and we have always appreciated his interest and support. Kevin returned to Bali on Wednesday morning and back to the office.
