Kang Guru visits East Java and MA MATHOLI'UL ANWAR to celebrate with the winners of the KGI writing competition (March bulletin 2011)
Once again a team from KGI was on the road. This time Sue, Ogi, Ayu and Mahendra headed for Lamongan to celebrate with the winners of the KGI Writing Competition (March bulletin 2011) at MA Matholi’ul Anwar, Lamongan.
KGI ‘s trip to Lamongan to conduct a half day activity at MA MATHOLI'UL ANWAR
Once again a team from KGI was on the road. This time I was joined by Ogi, Ayu and Mahendra – where we going? Lamongan. We were going to visit the winners of the KGI writing competition at MA Matholi’ul Anwar. We flew to Surabaya airport and there to meet us were Helmi and Najib from the school. They were going to drive us to Lamongan. The drive didn’t take too long – a couple of hours along the flat coastal areas west of Surabaya. We did have to stop at one point when the engine was getting rather hot, but it didn’t delay us too much and after switching off the air-con and opening the windows we were soon on the road again.
After checking into the hotel we went to find some lunch – ask Ogi and Ayu which lunch they enjoyed the most – their first or second!
After a short rest we went to the school – about 30 minutes from the hotel. There I met with about 20 teachers from neighbouring schools and we had a KGI information session and a question and answer session. Ayu and Ogi also helped with the preparations for the next day’s event.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at some warungs nearby the stadium and tasted two of Lamongan’s famous dishes – Ogi always insists we sample local food on a trip. We loved the soto Lamongan but weren’t too keen on the tahu campur dish – too many ingredients mixed in with a strong tasting sauce made from petis. However it was an interesting experience to try them.
The next day was full of fun!!! The costumes were great and the energy of the students was 110%! Read the reports of Ayu and Ogi to see what took place. I will say however that the pyjama chant of G double O D J O B will stay with us for a long time. (Sue)
Simo Sungelebak Karanggeneng Lamongan was short but meaningful. On the first day we met Pak Khotib and other teachers as well as the students and we helped them putting the KGI banner on the wall. Some students came to me and Introduced themselves in English. They were not only introduced their original names but also their facebook names. As soon as the students told me their facebook names I remember them straight away. . It’s a great feeling to finally meet people who we knew from KGI Facebook Fans Page One of the students I really familiar with was Mohammad Fauzan. He often showed up on KGI Fans Page wall and finally met him in person – although he was a very shy boy in reality than on Facebook.
The next day KGI team conducted the activity. There were 70 active students participating in the activities but there are about two hundred students watching. They were divided into 7 groups of 10 and as you can see from the pictures each group put on amazing costumes! All the students were full of energy; they didn’t stop saying their ‘yell yell ‘in chorus. They followed every single game with enthusiasm. KGI team could never forget the ‘yell-yell’ from the ‘Pink Pijamas’ group “G double O J O B – Good job, Good Job!”. It was a great fun! (Ayu)
The first thing I wanted to see when arrived at MA Matholi’ul Anwar is to meet Fauzan. One of the three students who won the special competition. His frequent emails and posting on facebook and also on SMS asking for special prize from KGI was somewhat disturbing. I thought he must be wanted to show off but to my surprise he doesn’t have mobile phone nor laptop. He said after school he went to warnet (near his house) to see the messages on KGI facebook and to compete on the competition. What a remarkable effort! Fauzan was such a nice student, very helpful when we did preparation for the KGI fun day. And his team won the best costume on that day - the Horror Team! Good Job guys! The other thing was that Lamongan to me is always associated with Soto Lamongan. I did try the soto lamongan, delicious. But unexpectedly me and Ayu found the bakso Malang kaki lima. It’s the best bakso I’ve had in months. Bakso Malang in Lamongan – what a nice surprise. (Ogi)
(Mahendra)
Emails from the students after the event -
INTERESTING DAY WITH KGI's TEAMS on July 28, a member of KGI (Sue, Ogi, Ayu, and Mahendra) visited the school MA. Matholi'ul Anwar, Lamongan, as Grand winner on KGI’s Special 2011 Competition for SMP/SMA/SMK. they make games on the show, not just a game to entertain but also a game that is very useful to improve our English skills, ranging from: the listening game0, pronunciation games, and others. though the games are very tiring but we do not feel bored or tired at all, because the game is very interesting, and entertaining, especially with Sue Rodger, he just the funniest among other KGI team, ranging from the way he walked into the audience to take a picture, his expression, when compared to the same Mr. Bean I think it's more funny mrs. Hi KGI… First I say, thank you very very very much, especially for the staff of KGI that came to my school MA. MATHOLI’UL ANWAR on 28th of July 2011. Thank you for my friends that became winner of writing competition in KGI and could brought KGI staff to our school. In that day, I was very happy because I could joined KGI games. Some weeks before that day, my teacher choosed 10 students from every excellent class in my school. And I was choosed also by the teacher. How happy I was ! In that day, my team (the oldest group) very energetic to join KGI games. When The Oldest Group came forward to showed our “yel-yel”, we were like have very much spirit in our body. And in the fact our work was success. The oldest group got second place and the prize was CD for our listening. The next game my team also could got the first place. The game made every team to send 3 students to looked for the answer of the question in the poster outside of the class. If the team sent more than 3 students they will lose the game. Because of that, my team got small bag maybe for the laptop. In that day I knew that Ms. Sue was very very funny, because she often make a funny action in front of the class. And also Ms. Ayu was very very beautiful with her unique hat in her head. And for Ms. Ogi and Mr. Mahendra maybe they were quiet especially Mr. Mahendra, but their face also very funny, hehe. In the last, I say again thank you very very much to KGI team for made me and my friends in MA. MATHOLI’UL ANWAR be happy…. (AHMAD FAHMI ZAMZAMI)
