KangGURU Travels to Guluk Guluk in Madura, East Java
The last trip for KGRE for this year was conducted on December 18th and 19th. Kevin visited Madura together with Denise Finney from IALF Bali. The reason for the trip was a good one. Margaret Rollings, an Aussie teacher trainer from Australia invited KGRE to attend the opening of two Grand English Language Resource Centers at Pondok Pesantren An-Nuqayah in Guluk Guluk, Madura. Margaret was placed in Guluk Guluk by the the Islamic Schools English Language Project (ISELP), an AusAID funded project managed by Australian Volunteers International (AVI). Margaret has been there for two years and together with her husband, John, and the staff of the pesantren, she has done many wonderful things. Besides working with teachers for the past two years, Margaret and staff put a proposal to the Australian Embassy. In that proposal they requested funding for two resource centers at the pesantren. These resource centers are basically for English language activities and support within the pesantren. |

There's even a Kang Guru Corner in each resource center - fantastic!

The two resource centers are both in the girl's sections of the pesantren. The students are very excited about their nrew classrooms and were very proud of what has been provided not only by the Australian Embassy, but also by their pestantren. Pondok Pesantren An-Nuqayah supplied the two rooms and also renovated them to a terrific condition - newly painted walls with newly tiled floors and great furniture added. Funding from the Australian Embassy was through Direct Aid Program funding (DAP).
