KangGURU Travels to Mendoyo in Bali
KGRE was very busy in early August 2006 with visitors. First of all Andriani Winoto (second from left and standing with Tjok, Alwi and Cheryl) visited KGRE from Melbourne, Australia. Andriani works for the Curriculum Corporation in Melbourne. Her company has been asked to do a Multi-Media Review of KGRE’s media services – radio, magazine and website. We are interested to know about our own programs – are they interesting, are they fun, are they using good English and so on. It is often better for someone, or an organization such as the Curriculum Corporation for example, to come from outside and help. They are new to the programs and the radio show and the internet AND they can be OBJECTIVE.We will share the results with you soon so wish us luck and many thanks to Andriani and her team from Melbourne. |

Our next group of visitors were from AusAID Canberra and AusAID Jakarta. These 5 visitors were with the KGRE Team for two days in early August just after Andriani left.

The Strategic Review team were at KGRE to talk to us about what we do in Indonesia. But more than just that, they wanted to see which KGRE activities were the most successful and which KGRE activities were not so successful. They spoke to the whole KGRE Team plus three visitors especially flown in for the visit. Mbak Ririn, Pak Syahrir and Pak Suriyadi came from Kediri, Makassar and Madura respectively, to help give important information to the Strategic Team. |
It was great to see these three KGRE Champions here at IALF Bali. In fact it was Suriyadi’s first trip to Bali – ever! All three are great supporters of KGRE. We are also in the process now of creating the KGRE Champions group – these three people are the first members of that group.
Here are (from right) - Suriyadi, Ririn, Ogi, Syahrir and Alwi with YTjok seated - all in the kGRE office having a chat. |

On the second day of the AusAID visit, KGRE took them all to West Bali to the lovely town of Mendoyo and to SMP Negeri 2 Mendoyo. Three very active KGRE Connection Clubs, plus one language club soon to join the KGCC, gathered at the school to meet the Strategic Review Team. It was a terrific day with music, games and chatter. The students went to a lot of trouble and the day was just fantastic for everyone.
Members of the AusAID Strategic Team chatted with students and teachers from the clubs. The Strategic Review Team were given a lot of interesting information about the schools, their clubs and education in Indonesia. Thanks to the clubs for their performances and for their enthusiasm. Thanks to their teachers for supporting the activity and to the local DINAS office for their help too.
