KangGURU Travels to Mendoyo in Bali - December 2006
written by Kevin

In late December, KGRE went to Mendoyo in West Bali, 3 hours from Denpasar. But KGRE didn't go alone. We took some Aussie visitors with us including Walter Slamer and Mike Carlton from 2UE in Sydney. Walter was actually the Kapt Kang Guru before me. He was Kapt Kang Guru from 1997 until 1999. Do you remember him?

Many people ask, 'What ever happened to Walter Slamer'.

Walter is producing a television documentary about the Australia Indonesia relationship for Australian television. He and his crew wanted to see KGRE in action. There are 4 Kang Guru Connection Clubs (KGCCs) in Mendoyo so we decided that was a good place to see some of the work of KGRE with students and teachers. The documentary team was keen to see and chat with the students and the teachers at Mendoyo and they were pleasantly surprised at what they saw during the visit.
Walter 'in action'

There were two cameramen, a sound technician and one other very special person called Mike. He is going to be the narrator on the finished documenary. His name is Mike Carlton. He is very famous in Australia. His radio program on Sydney morning radio 2UE has been very popular for over 20 years.

He is a very experienced radio personality. He gave KGRE a special interview before leaving for Mendoyo AND then he interviewed the students in Mendoyo. He asked them questions about Australia, for example. The students at Mendoyo were very quick with their answers. Well Done!

Walter and his crew returned to Ausralia on December 24th BUT they will be back in Indonesia in March, 2007.
