KangGURU Travels to Purwokerto
written by Alwi

On Friday morning, I flew to Jogja to meet the Brownish English Club in Purwokerto, a member of the KGRE Connection Club network. It was such a great opportunity for me to visit the club. There was a heavy rain in Jogja that the plane had to land at Solo airport first then fly back to Jogja an hour later. The landing in Jogja was just fine this time. I went directly to the hotel then at 10.00 am I headed to Purwokerto by car. Pak Agung ,the driver, was very friendly and drove safely.
It took me more than 3 hours to get to Purwokerto city and it was a hot and sunny day there. Riren, the leader and Dimas picked me up at the bus station; in fact the meeting’s venue was just 5 minutes from the station. Members of the club greeted me very well and we started to have a small meeting with them. They asked me many questions about KGRE project, scholarship, IALF, and they also sent their warmest regard to all KGRE staff in Bali. I enjoyed the meeting very much.
They were very active and fun too. Motivate their friend to join the club is their big issue in the meeting. Then it was my time, on behalf of KGRE, to present the KGRE grand prize, a Polytron combo/cassette/CD player. They were very surprised and very happy indeed knowing that the prize would help them much in their club activities. KGRE also got a gift, Purwokerto’s famous traditional foods, from Brownish. It was 4.50 pm as I had to go back to Jogja. They hope that KGRE would visit them again in the future and keep supporting their English club.
Late around 22.00 pm, I reached Novotel where I stayed in Jogja. On Saturday I spent my time looking round Jogja city. On Sunday afternoon I flew back to Denpasar from Adi Sucipto airport in Jogjakarta.
