Kang GURU Travels to Gedung DIKNAS Denpasar, Nov. 2007

On November 26th, Ogi and Maggie headed off to Gedung Diknas to take part in an Introduction to a Multicultural Australia afternoon organized by the Australian Consulate General in Bali. This educational afternoon was for SMA and SMP English teachers in Bali plus the group of master teacher trainers who were then studying with ELTIS at IALF, Bali, to introduce them to the various cultures which shape Australia today.

First on the agenda was a brief promotional film about Australia with some amazing photography. After that we watched a thought- provoking film called 'Crocodile Dreaming', about the unique belief system of an Aboriginal clan in northern Australia. The Vice-Consul, Adelaide Worcester, then gave a really interesting explanation about some of the concepts the film raised.

After a break where we all enjoyed afternoon tea and a chat, it was Kang Guru’s turn to do a song and an Aussie trivia quiz. All the teachers had a lot of fun learning and singing the old John Williamson classic ‘G’day, G’day'. The Aussie Trivia Quiz was really lively and a lot of fun. The questions were all about Australia. Most groups of teachers a had an Australian Volunteer International or some other Australian helper to assist them with some of the trivia quiz questions.

All in all it was a great, fun afternoon and I’m sure most of the teachers who attended came away with deeper knowledge about Muliticultural Australia.
