Kang Guru visited SMA 15 Surabaya, a BRIDGE Program school, to meet once again with Australia Indonesia Youth
Exchange Program (AIYEP) members and with Ali Gufron, a teacher at the school. Ali is one of the first 30
participants in the BRIDGE program from AII and AusAID. Along with 59 other participants he will go to Australia
this year to work in Australian schools. He recently underwent pre-departure training with Kang Guru in Bali.
On February 4th, Kevin flew to Surabaya for two reasons. The first reason was to catch up with the 36 participants
of Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) 2008-9. They were visiting SMA
15 in Surabaya to meet with students for cross-cultural activities including songs and dance and sport.
Hundreds of SMA 15 students enjoyed the once in a lifetime visit as it gave them an
excellent opportunity to meet with not only young Australians but with fellow Indonesians who have just recently
returned to Indonesia after 2 months living in Australia. The SMA 15 students had many, many questions for
the visitors about Australia and about the AIYEP exchange program. AIYEP is presented by the Australia Indonesia
Institute (AII) in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth Sport and Recreation here in Indonesia.
The morning was taken up with cross-cultural activities in which the Australian and Indonesian AIYEPs performed
together both Indonesia and Australian songs and dances. It was fantastic to see and SMA 15 students really
appreciated their performances.

developing sister school relationships.
